help needed with electric door locks...
Hi all
just a quick question. My door locks worked fine until yesterday, now they do not open all the way.
Ie. when pressing the central locking button ahead of the gearshift, the locks slam down with the typical re-assuring think, BUT, when pressed again to open, the door locks (both left and right) only op up about half-way, not quite enough to unlock doors, so I need to use the big round dial on the door to open.
Any ideas? Happens whether car is parked or driving, (could it be low battery?)

I had the same and it was a faulty door lock relay. On a RHD 964 its in the left footwell. It's a black box about the same size as a pack of playing cards.

Thanks Steve, much appreciated. I'll start the hunt there.
BTW, where did you get replacement? Hoping it's not too $$$ !
PS. just had a quick peek at your Blog, looks like some damn fine reading there. I'm saving the page for later, curled up on the lounge with the iPad.

I got a used one off ebay for £35 which is about a tenth of the price of a new one. There are usually plenty of used ones about because it's the same one as used on the 944. Albeit that you have to take it out of the 944 casing and put it in your 964 casing. Here's one so that you know what your looking for:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PORSCHE-94...item19ce4f494c
However, do check that you've got one first because in previous discussions on here people have suggested that they don't have one of these relays or couldn't find it. Nb. It takes a bit of finding and you almost need to be a contortionist to get to it.
p.s. If you want me to get you the one above (seeing as it's in the UK) and post it to you, let me know.

Thanks Steve, you are a true gentleman.
Yes, I'll locate it first - I will need to refresh my knowledge on door-card removal, I'm sure there is a post or three about it somewhere
Thanks so much for the offer, I'll PM you.
Cheers buddy

No need to remove the door card John. If you've got the relay it's fixed to the wall of the passenger footwell. Get a flash light and get your head right under the dash to find it. it's near the heater hose.

D'oh, thanks Steve, I should pay better attention... footwell!
I have a couple of hours to kill later today (waiting for a builder... groan), so I'll take the opportunity to hunt - and maybe give the car a spit and polish ;-)
Assuming I find it, is there any way I can confirm this is the problem before spending the money for a replacement? Maybe using a multi-meter or something?

Well, it was EXACTLY where you said it would be Steve
Thanks for the offer to act as middle-man. I had a quick search, and none are available down-under, but dozens are available on your side of the lake... go figure ...
here is mine...
