Default Do rear Bilstein HD's require bumpstops?

With any luck my suspension upgrade will soon be underway.

I'm going with Bilstein HD's and H&R red springs with ride height set at near euro RS.

In searching the archives I am finding conflicting information about the need for rear bumpstops.

The part numbers for the Bilsteins are:

Part Number: 24-017350
Setting: B6 (HD)
Position: Rear
Old Part Number: F4-B46-1735-H2
Quantity Per Vehicle: 2

Part Number: 35-052784
Setting: B6 (HD)
Position: Front Right
Old Part Number: F4-VE3-5278-H3
Quantity Per Vehicle: 1

Part Number: 35-052777
Setting: B6 (HD)
Position: Front Left
Old Part Number: F4-VE3-5277-H3
Quantity Per Vehicle: 1

Will I need to order the OEM RS bumpstops?

Finally, will there be any issues with negative camber at RS ride height?

Thanks!

Jim

They are internally bumper stopped.

I installed HD + Reds on a 93. IIRC, the rears do need bumpstop. The fronts have an internal bumpstop. I used new OEM bumpstops as the ones that came off had the consistencey of a wet sponge and were falling apart.

AFA alignment goes, we have a track alignment of about -2 camber in the front with RS+15 mm or so ride height. I believe that the fronts are on the bottom of the thread.

Good luck

I was wondering about that myself. However, on the rear the factory boot and stop doesn't fit on the Bilstien correctly. When I asked about it I was told they were internally stopped.

I guess I stand corrected.

Per Bilstien rears need boots and stops, which I don't get they just fall down to the bottom. Unless I am missing something. Going to look at it all again this evening.

They had no recommendations on cutting the OEM stop down.

The fronts are internally stopped

Thanks to everyone who posted and especially to power_up who provided me the part numbers for the OEM RS bumpstops a week ago. Based on Power_up's information I had planned on ordering the bumpstops, but then came across multiple posts saying that they were internal.

Now it's confirmed, the rears do require external bumpstops.

Nader, thank you for the set up information!

Makmov, the link I posted above shows the bumpstop, but all the text is in German.

Thanks again!

I am still confused...I am ready to have a shop install my HD's and H&R purple lowering springs on my '94 C2; I live in So. Oregon and don't have access to a Porsche only shop...I might have to take her up to Portland. I did have a conversation with Steve Weiner at Rennsport Solutions and he told me that I did not need special bump stops for the rear. I am assuming that he would use all the original nuts and bolts and bump stops for the installation...? If the old bump stops are bad, I would assume we would replace them with OG bump stops; not lowering ones.? I hope Steve will read this and chime in. I may call him tomorrow to clarify again. If I use a local shop, I want to make sure I know what I am talking about so that we don't miss something! Portland is only five hours away; that might be the better call to have a Porsche only shop do everything I need done and know it was done right! I am going to do the suspension, brakes, tires, corner balance, and dist. belt for good measure. This should set me up for the summer!

If I were you I would take the car to Steve Weiner for such a major service.

Thanks James...yes I think driving up to Portland for a couple of days, once the snow stops flying, is the smart call! As soon as I have a little extra time, I will post some pics of my 964 and properly introduce myself! Thanks again for your input!

Portland is one of my favorite places. There are tons of things to do there. Depending on where you are driving from that must be a nice drive as well.

According to the Manuals I got with my BILSTEIN PSS9 shocks for my 986:

Do not reuse original- bumper and dust cover, since BILSTEIN- strut has built in bump stop.
NO EXTERNAL BUMP STOPS. BUMP STOPS ARE INTERNAL WITH BILSTEIN PSS9 or PSS10 B16.

So much hearsay and rumour on these technical topics. Call the manufacturer if you are unsure.

Cheers,
Robin.
