Default Another Newbie Question - Maintenance Records

I have been told by Porsche North America that they do not have a NA wide records system - which exposed my naivety as I had assumed all major brands would have that now.

Anyway - my intention was to try to assemble some missing records for the speedster I had just purchased

Is there a smart way to try to recover records from Porsche dealerships or am I SOL? I do not perceive any problems or anything I am just a little **** about record keeping.

You can do a carfax to determine which cities/states the car was registered in. Call the local dealer where the car was registered and supply your vin#. They can search the system for any repairs and reprint the jobs.

The amount of info you receive will be based on how far back their system archives records.

Ask for the service manager when you call.

Thanks for that tip - I have the carfax and autocheck so that is a good place to start!

Porsche had no centralized records back in the 90s. Only if you happen to know the dealerships where service was performed, will you find records. (and if they are still in business.... Bayside Porsche in Seattle anyone?) The only thing any dealer can tell you from the VIN is whether the recall campaigns were performed.

fwiw - I bought a car recently, and it had no records - so I called the dealership where all the servoce was done, and they told me the only person they would give the records to was the original owner. Since i was buying from a used car dealer, i was sol. But had I been buying privately - maybe I could have gotten the owner to give a hand there...
