Default melted top coil

hi guys,

I was driving when suddenly the car stall a few time , I manage to start it again but tick over was rough and it was running bad up to 2.5 rpm.
After 30 mm drive, I finally break down ...and call the recovery...
the next day the the guy from the garage call me, to say that one of the coils have melted... he is investigated to see what could have cause it,
that coil was maybe not working well for sometimes as the car was not starting as easy as before ( I was thinking it's my small race battery)

any ideas, I am quite surprised this happened !!?

A blowhard I knew in Hawaii called and said his gelandewagen was not running and would I come over and put a part on it . He wanted me to replace a part he had picked out . He didn't want me to find out what part really needed replacing , he just wanted the part he had in hand to be put on . I knew the part was not keeping the motor from running , it was some sort of water valve hidden under and behind the exhaust system . He refused to let me find out what was really needed so I said sure , I'll replace the part . I took the part over to his truck , then I looked around , under the cap was a rotor that was much like your coil , toasted . I had a spare rotor for the porsche with me and it matched up just fine . I had his motor running in just a few minutes . I never put on the part he had .
I'd say replace the coil and the wire if the wire looks like it got toasted also and then drive the car .

The spark put out by the coil can and will toast anything and everything it comes in contact with .

replacement of both coils is planed, what could have caused it is still a mystery , waiting for a verdict from the garage,
