Default Getting a 964

Hello,
Im thinking of buying a 1990 964 C2. Its being sold by my Porsche dealer.
The exterior looks very good but the engine seems a little abused. They say only 26,000km

What do you think of the engine (look at pic)

Thanks

I'd be VERY doubtful of the mileage! I'd bet you're looking at 80 minimum.

Have a good long read through the history, do the background checks, ask plenty questions and only if still interested get a PPI. Don't buy without

Agree. It has a ton more. Missing some clips as well. The color of the key trim on the dashboard also tends to indicate mega mileage...

I wouldn't say the engine is abused (by the appearance) perhaps unloved...

Get a Pre Purchase Inspection.

engine bay looks a bit rough for 26k km but if no one ever cleaned it, its not that bad for being 20 years old.

The key trim indicates mega mileage? You mean the faded rosette? has nothing to do with mileage

check out the rubber wear on the clutch, brake, gas pedal. with 26k, km there should be next to none.

Let's hope I am wrong. The engine in my car looks better with 10 times the Kms. No matter, it is very hard to asess the car from these pics. We'd need pictures of the suspension, brakes, pedals, driver seat...

Perhaps it's the picture quality but the steering wheel looks blue but the rest of the dash and interior trim black? I can't recall seeing that combination before, I would have thought it would either be all blue or all black? It might indicate that the steering wheel has been replaced for some reason. If that is the case, you might want to make sure it's not because the airbag was triggered in some incident.

Thats the first thing I noticed too ... I get a baaaad feeling about this one. I just feel like you will find many unpleasant surprises. There are a lot of good deals out there. You know that initial feeling you get when are presented with a situation? ... listen to it ... Your initial gut instinct can tell you a lot ..

What ever you do, get a PPI. You might be able to get away with a 10k offer, but, be ready to put in some bucks. Many will tell you, these cars are 25k cars one way or another.

Take a good look at the windshield, is it original and does it look sandblasted? A windshield can tell you a lot about a car's mileage if it's the original glass-

Where are you located? The car looks great and the color combo is nice, however from the pictures it is hard to judge mileage. As others have stated:

- have a close look at the windshield chipping
- check the rubber on the pedals for wear ( there should be none at that mileage)
- look for maintenance records to verify mileage
- get a pre purchase inspection (PPI) by another shop
