Default Jack Stand Bar--Prototype

A good friend who is retired and one heck of a fabricator designed two bars to assist in jack stand placement.

I was complaining about how difficult it was to get my car on stands vs. my 78 SC.

I mentioned a Rennlist thread to him which used square tubing running between the rear jack ports.

He took it one step further by creating a bar running from the front jack port to the rear jack port and installed a base with a bolt to hold the bar in place.

The bar did have a slight deflection when jacked but when the stands were put in place and the car lowered, the bar returned to form.

We are considering making another bar with a larger tube. We used 1.25/40 and are considering 1.50/80.

A special thanks to Bob & Sandy for allowing me to lift my car with ease!

Very cool. I remember seeing a 928 guy have a set sort of like this (I believe it was boxed instead of round). I could never find one for a 964 though. Is there any concern about these slipping on the jack stand? Maybe a "stopper" on either side of where the jack touches the bar would help? Then again, maybe I'm paranoid.

My jack has a rubber pad and raised notches. I positioned the tube between the notches and had no movement.

A jack pad welded to the tube is a good idea--similar to a early 911 jack pad.

Edit: sorry your question was about the jack stands. The perch on the jack stand is round which matches up well with the round tubing. The stands are positioned several inches from the end of the tube.

Default Works for 993s too!

Works for 993 as well as 964; they are the same dimensions.

Opo -- No, these are not for sale.

I posted this because it solved my jack stand placement issues and wanted to share the information.

Can't seem to get the pic's to upload. But if you search under lifting bars, then go to page 2 and click on newsboy, you will see them.

I made these after seeing another post of something similar on Rennlist.
Just some 2" thick walled tubing, with some 3/8" steel plate welded to match the front and rear lift points on a 964, and some rubber pads glued on. I can get my low profile jack under these, raise one side of the car and insert 2 jack stands, then do the other side, increasing the height incrementally.
Eliminates the problem of not being able to place jack stands at the lifting points bring occupied by the jack.
