Default Seat "Upgrade"?

Hi folks,

Im thinking about upgrading the sports seats in my 964 and need your thoughts on what has been tried before.

Im not looking for a track seat (such as Recaro Pole Positions), only leather clad luxuary, as the car isnt being tracked

Has anyone fitted the winged 996 / Boxster hard back seats?

Ive had a search for previous threads, but cant find much other than track upgrades?

Thanks
Chris

I have owned the regular 944-964 comfort seats, 944-964 sport seats, RSA sport seats (same but cloth), Recaro Pole Positiong, 993 comfort seats (same as the earlier ones, just different stitching pattern) and have 996 sport seats currently in my car.

I liked the RSA sport seats the most just because they are cloth and provide extra grip. The 996 sport seats are very comfortable but to be honest I prefer the earlier side bolsters. I also loved the Pole Positions and have done long drives in them with no fatigue, but on a street car they may be too much for some. This is just my personal view.

If you want to install the 996 version in a 964/993 it is relatively easy. Grind a couple of studs off the rails, bend a couple of tabs at the end of the rails, cut the wiring harness (piece of cake), then bolt on. Hope this helps.

993 hard backs would be a good option, no?

Almost identical to the 996 version styling wise but easier to fit, I imagine

I had them in my old 993 and loved them

Good info guys

Thanks for the heads-up on the 993 hard-backs freedman. Loads of the 996 ones on eBay at the moment, some 993s may crop up...

You know, last year I had the Recaro Speeds. Liked them. Comfortable (I'm 5'10", 185) and attractive.

Perhaps another choice for you.

The 996 seats look to be not too bad a fit. Found a good "how to" which expands a little on ilko's description:

The 993 seats cost a good bit more than the 996 ones. I also think that the stitching pattern in the 996 better matches the 964.

Thanks for the link

I really should just pay up!

I wonder what 996 hard backs in Linen leather with Guards Red backs would look like in a Guards Red coupe...

If your aim is to keep the car pretty much standard, what about getting the existing seats re-trimmed?

How do Steve,

Was quoted not too bad a re-trim price when I had other bits of the interior leather clad recently.

But, the car is pretty much non-standard in every way now (apart from the engine...) so fancied the seat swap rather than a re-trim to keep things different.

Just bought a '90 964...and I just happen to have an extra set of '87 944 Sports Seats. Are the 944 Sport Seats a direct bolt-in? And, has anybody installed heaters in a set of Sport Seats?

The '90 964 is going to be my daily driver and I really like the fit and comfort of the '44 Sport Seats and having some warm buns in the dead of winter ain't bad either.
