Concur with the above that it only works with a "beater" car. Now for some a 997 Cup represents a beater. What's popular around here are the (ack) Lemons cars. Almost all of those crap-can racers are co-op owned, but the total investment is $2-3K.
I don't get where these electrical failures come from. My departed RSA and the 993 faux RS collectively have almost 300K miles on them. Zero issues ever from the stock components. And they don't get used leisurely..........
I remember one track meeting done this year 200 kms away from BA, a close friend with a 993 couldn´t take part in the time trials because the electrical installation of his car started smoking
That's interesting. In the UK, some 993s were recalled by the factory to have the wiring loom changed because of the risk of fire. Might be worth your friend checking with Porsche if his car should have been recalled.
my research suggests that the 964 is a much more reliable track car than your boxster or cayman plan.
if your mate misses a gear-change then you can hardly blame the 964.
30yrs of motorsport development have gone into your 964 engine and it is one of the most successful racing engines in the world (or so I read in a recent car magazine).
I dont think the boxster engine has any motorsport development, probably not the cayman either.

Yes, that was the answer our main mechanic (ex Porsche chief mechanic) told us, the car wiring loom was never changed when it should have been done years ago.
Delayed maintenance by the previous owners is probably the main reason of our issues
