Default New motor mounts and spark plug wires installed

Busy weekend in and under the car this weekend!

I installed the new 993 motor mounts to replace the piece-o-crap Ebay mounts from Deutsche Technic and the sagging is gone as is the excessive vibration in the cabin. All in all very easy and satisfying....although I lost $$ on the first mounts. Lesson learned.

Then I decided that, instead of getting pepper sprayed in the face while trying to buy a $3 waffle iron at Wal Mart, I'd stay at home and be productive and replace my spark plug wires. I an getting the Xmas Tree effect when I turn my headlights on and I figured the plug wires would be a good place to start hunting down this issue. Additionally the lower wires on the passenger side were literally saturated with engine oil and I figured they might be decomposing because they were very very soft and pliable.

I purchased the custom made plug wires from the guy on Pelican for a very good price. The posts about them were positive and wasn't excited about spending the long green on the Beru ones.

The driver's side went without a hitch. Since I did a valve adjustment last year all the bolts on the cat bypass and the engine tin were easily removed. I also sliced the rubber grommet the goes through the engine tin and reused it (on both sides).

The passenger side is nothing short of a total bear of a job. the 3-wire standoff connectors that are buried under the intake manifold are simply not removable without removing the whole manifold. I was able to reuse the 3-wire standoff's under the AC compressor and the one on the distributor side but the one in the middle I just pried off and is sitting on my bench.

The other vexing issue is rethreading the wires on top of the fan. There is a top and bottom plastic assembly (3 pieces on the bottom inside) that is very challenging to replace. I got it done but it took a while and I snapped some of the plastic connectors (whoops). Anyway it got worked out.

I did notice that the top plug wire going into the #5 cylinder was cracked so I felt vindicated in doing all the work.

Well I buttoned everything up and with a beach towel on the driver seat (I was a grease covered mess) I turned the ignition key and VROOOOOM! I must say it really is satisfying to be able to take a car part and put it back to together and have it work on the first crank.

By the time I finished it was dark but I had to go for a spin and the car drives great. Maybe I have Proud Poppa Syndrome but I feel like a I have slightly better throttle response and the car sounds throatier.

Anyway I went for a short 15 min drive and used my high beams a lot and I thought I had everything sorted until I was making the turn to go back home and, yep, all the dash lights came on!?!?!

Well I still have to replace the wires going from the coil to the distributor but I doubt this will rectify the issue. So the hunt to eradicate the Xmas tree effect goes on.

Thanks to everyone on this board for giving me the knowledge and confidence to tackle these projects. Before getting my Porsche I totally and completely relied on mechanics to do everything on my other cars. Not anymore!!
