Default Snow tires/chains/preparing for winter driving?

Hi everyone,

I'm moving from Paris to Bologna in Italy next month and will have to drive the C2 through the Mont Blanc tunnel/lower alps.

As I wouldn't normally use the car in bad weather, I don't really want to have to buy some snow tires tires on the car just for this. (and it probably won't snow anyway...)

Since snow chains wouldn't fit, are there any other options available that I can take with me just in-case?

Thanks,

Andrew

You would have to be pretty unlucky to find uncleared snow/ice on the motorways in France and Italy. The alpine motorways are actually better equipped than the others, and usually cleared earlier.
It's not the snow you should fear, it's the salt...

I usually have 2 old carpets in the cars for snow. It helps when stuck on starting.

I've heard good things about using Snow Socks in an emergency:

I have snow socks and have used them for the past 3 winters in heavy snow over in the uk and they have been great, a range rover failed to get up the steep hill on the way to where I live and I gave her a lift up in my fwd works van with them on so they defo work.... Just take them off soon as you hit Tarmac as it tears them to bits....
