How much do you spend on keeping your car maintained?
After 10 years of owning a 996, I am looking at buying a 964. The 964 is the "old school" Porsche I loved when I was younger. I know buying a 20 year old car will require some costs in keeping things running well. I test drove a 1990 C4 Cab today and examined all the repair receipts. Wow! I bet $60K has been spent in the last 12-15yrs. Just wondering if anyone wants to venture a guess on what you spend yearly on regular maintenance. Not upgrades, just the needed repairs to keep things in good working order. I would love to find a great 964. Thanks

i dont think the 964 will depreciate.
what is the depreciation & maintenance on a 996 over 12 yrs?
what is the depreciation & maintenance on your average family car with an new car upgrade every 3 yrs?
I think the 964 could be the lowest total cost of ownership.

I spreadsheet everything... I have owned the 964 Speedster for 11 years, and have put on a little over 10k miles...
Total maintenance cost = $502/year
I do my own liquid maintenance, though do take it in to the dealer for scheduled services...
Including annual registration ($140/yr) and insurance ($461/yr) = $1103/year
And the car has appreciated about $30K since I purchased it... Very pleased with this "investment" so far... Pride of ownership is priceless... The 964 is my favorite run of 911s to date... I want a 94 Turbo, 94 Widebody C4, 93 RSA, 92 US Cup, 92 America Roadster....

at 1,000 miles per year, it shouldn't cost much.
I'd say plan on about $2.5k per year. If you don't use it each year, put it into an account for the eventual engine reseal/top end or for a vacation or something.

I've only owned my 964 since June, and I spreadsheet everything too.

Over the 11 years of ownership I have not spent to much on maintenance
Oil change ever year performed by me= less than $100 (I get Mobil 1 synthetic from a friend)
Valve adjustment and new plugs @30,000 miles= $1200 (dealer)
New front brakes and rotors 4 thousand miles ago = $500 +/- (shop) but from now done by me as it is simple
Oem RSA wing and decklid $3000
Thats about it....

A bunch...but I spend a lot more to keep my 944 turbo running and the 944 turbo is horrible to work on, but still fun to drive. Nothing beats driving an air cooled 911
