Default Shot peen hubs?

Yes, I searched.

I have my hubs off to replace the rear bearings (I'll post a DIY soon - shortly after I write it ) but I have been reading about hub failure.

I guess hub failure is pretty rare on C4's but someone noted that hub failure can be reduced if the hubs are shot peened.

Is this worth it??

Thanks.

Marc

Shouldn't hurt, given proper skill/equipment. What's it cost to have done? I've *never* read of C4 hub failure and tried to digest every single post anywhere regarding common problems on the 964 C4 before buying one.

You're doing the bearings yourself? My hero. Will defo subsribe to the DIY.

Based on what I know about shot peening (very little, btw), would other parts benefit from this process?

There is one mentioning it here.

Marc,
I'm unable to weigh in on the advantages of shot peening, but I can give you an asthetic goal to strive for:

My front hub carriers...

That post is 5 years old and from one person. Several of us have been racing 964s for the past 10 years. I have never heard of (Except that post) or seen broken hubs on a 964- street, race, or otherwise. I have changed all the bearings at least once on my car, and helped others. The hubs always looked fine. I would not dwell on it, and as the hubs are hardened, I am not sure what shot-peeing would do (as opposed to connecting rods, etc.)

True but Bill does know what he is talking about and recommended Magnafluxing the hubs when out too.

You make some good points though and it sounds like the hubs that failed may have been pounded on (perhaps to remove studs or pull the bearings) so that have contributed to the failure.

Very nice but if I spent the time to get mine looking that good, I'd never get to drive it.

For everyone's benefit, this is what I posted on this over at the racing forum.

FYI, I have no ownership or profit interest on these.
