So, given these hoses deteriorate with age, what kind of approach are people taking to replacing them? Just when inspection shows leaks? or after a certain number of years?

I am pleased that my thread started a general check up on oil lines for our old
Porsches ! better safe than sorry, regardless the costs involved.
If the lines are over 10 years old, I would renew the lot, did the lines to and from the oil
cooler a year ago, they were at the brink of disaster ! If the line breaks or develops
a leak at the front , you get an oil spray on the right front wheel !! Imagine
what this means when you are doing 140mph !!!
a number of accidents in Germany with 911's are caused by just that,
the Germans call the 911's ' Baumkleber'. Go figure !

p.s. Baumkleber is something like 'glued to a tree' in real language

I am interested in all the talk about the original pipe being braided and with brass fitings. My original pipe isn't braided and the end pieces aren't brass i.e. the crimping and nut at one end turned to mostly rust and are falling apart, hence I am replacing mine. The new line that I have received from Porsche is also not braided and has what appears to be plated crimped sections and nuts. The metal bits of pipe may be brass, but hard to tell as they are painted/coated black.

Sounds like the same oil line I fitted, the blackpainted ends are brass/messing.
I reckon that Porsche knows what they sell, should be safe.

I have had my doubts over recent years of Porsche's replacment parts quality. I know that some items I have swapped out have appeared to be lower than the original quality. Will keep my fingers crossed for the oil line.

So, forgive the dumb question - what kind of braided hose are we talking about here? Fabric or steel?

The originals are fabric covered.
