Default Broken Third Brake Light

When I purchased my 1991 C2 Cab, the third brake light was broken (flopping around). My mechanic repaired it by gluing it inside. Apparently, the glue inside has broken off because it is now loose again and flopping around. Tightening the screws obviously doesn't do anything.

I ordered a used third brake light and received one that had obviously been broken and then glued in the same way mine was. I'm hesitant to go to the trouble of painting it to match my car and then putting it on and having it break again.

So, I looked around for new ones without much success. The part number is 964-631-072-00, but this is hard to find. I have instead seen the parts 911-631-071-00-OEM and 911-631-072-00-M100 from Pelican Parts, but these are for an older 911. I'm wondering if they can be made to fit my car. It sure would be nice to have a new part that I wouldn't have to worry about breaking (at least for a while).

Anyone have any experience with this problem? My mechanic seemed to imply that broken third brake lights on my car were common, but I couldn't find much relevant information when I searched this forum.

Thanks for any help.

Hey thanks, but when I looked that part up at Gaudin, it said this item is discontinued.

Not affiliated in any way, but decent experience working with http://www.partsheaven.com

They were recommended to me from another local owner who has more than one Porsche.

I was looking for vinyl interior part. They ended up not having mine, but they where helpful. I would check with them.
