Stig,
No need to apologize. But you are right, quality costs something. And even then, call up Porsche and compare the price of our product to theirs. We're still cheaper.

Kai,
Glad to hear that you're happy with your gears too. I wasn't sure if they were ours or not, and didn't want to be presumptious.

Cobalt,
There's a reason we're not a sponsor here. It's not because of cost, it's because we're primarily a wholesale business. When I come here and participate, it's by way of providing technical support and information. Other than the LSD rebuilding program, which we do in house, everything else we make requires a specialist to install it. As such, I won't make deals with guys that could potentially be undercutting one of our dealers. So we work through a network of dealers. Quite a few of our dealers sponsor Rennlist, and they are generally who I will send you to if you ask about installation. If you're serious about the volume thing, I would encourage you to have a conversation with your builder. They can negotiate with me on your behalf.

I see you are in New Jersey. If you don't have a builder already, Body Motion is in Ocean. Mike Bavarro is an excellent gearbox mechanic, a GT dealer, and a Rennlist sponsor. It's a win win win.

regards,

Matt

I have dreams of getting a 993 6speed box with re-worked gears.

Matt - do you have any dealers or distributors for your gears in Canada?

You may want to look into a ROW G50/21 - the gearing is quite good as delivered.

Matt,

I wasn't serious about the group buy. ie evil grin. I know Mike and he does great work but I deal with my friends at Protosport which is nearby. looks like a very wroth while upgrade which I plan on doing this winter. I will rebuild the box I purchased and see how it works out if everything is as good as what i am reading i will have a low mileage G50 for sale.

Thanks for the input.

If ya'll go to GTs website, they have a gear chart with their aval combos and resultant ratios...grab those, get a gear chart from on-line somewhere and have fun with it.

And "while yer in there" don't forget yer LSDs.

Our biggest dealer in Canada is MB Euromotors/Bullet Racing. In addition to them, we also work with Fiorano Racing, Speed Merchants, and EU Autowerks.

One final question from me since I don't see it on your website - are these gear sets applicable to C4s as well - that is the G64 transmission or G50 only?

Cheers

Kai,

Back to HPR for a question: tell me about getting through and out of 11. For me, 2nd through 11 is too low and I'm needing to upshift to 3rd before fully exiting and getting to the gator, but 3rd is too high to stay in the power band going up the hill.

The ONLY gears that have ever been made as alternatives for the 964 C4 is the C4 lightweight ratios that were used on that limited production of around 20 cars. It's a gearbox that's unique to that chassis and is more like a 959 gearbox than a G50. About the only place I know of these days that could supply those special ratios would likely be Freisinger in Germany. Expect to pay through the nose for them too. Like 1500-2000 Euro sort of prices.

The factory agrees w/ you

here's a comparison for most 5 & 6 speed g50s used in 964 & 993, unfortunately the 964s are w/ slightly shorter tires so direct comparison is a bit off

the full race g50/30 has a taller 1, 2 and shorter 3, 4, 5 as does the g50/10 used in RS and Cup cars, though the 5 speeds have a confusing array of gear sets more because of regulatory than performance concerns

also of interest is the more performance oriented gearing in g50 31 and 32 used in the 993RS

Scott, T11 is a mid-range 3d gear corner for me with plenty of rpm to move the rear if I need to. The shift to fourth occurs just after the apex of 12 and I do it carefully to not unsettle the car. Down to 3d for 13, 14 and 15 and almost wound out in 4th to T1, which I now run through in 4th.
