Default Claudia gets a Rennsport Systems chip

As I mentioned in an earlier post, Rothsport left the Autothority chip in the car to save a bit of cash.

With that chip, the car seemed to run well, but her manners at idle were really not very good: Lumpy idle which bounced from about 1000 to 1050 rpm and the redline had been set to 7K.

It is now in the trash can. Steve Weiner (Rennsport Systems) sent me one of his chips (a straight forward installation, btw.).

Idle smooth as silk at 750 rpm, a subjectivly greater push in the mid rpm range and a very noticeably greater urgency from 5K up to redline (back to 6750 where it belongs). No stalling whatsoever with the LWF...and throttle response under load also seems improved.

Highly recomend one should you not have one yet.

Always nice to have a spare just in case, and not just for failure, but for the ability to rule out the new chip in case something hiccups in the future. it doesn't take up much space in the garage.

Point taken Laker...I just washed the lettuce and bacon grease off of it and will keep it. Good idea, and yes, it takes up suprisingly little space.

Sounds like my kind of diet!

Speaking of food.....how much for the chip?

Kai...I got the wong chip a few weeks back...91 octance..I noticed the difference...peppier and much smoother and more refined (it's actually quieter)...

What's the difference Steve W and the Wong chip...one in the same or is yours designed for race...Phil

Gads,....knowing the quality of that bacon, I would have been sorely tempted to lick it clean,....

Follow that with that special Wurth spray I just sent you, you'd be good-to-go.

Both are good ones. I do know for a fact that Steve has many many hours of dyno work behind his.

Each guy is going to have some proprietary changes in software; fuel ratios and timing up and down the curve and alterations based on other mods to the car. Same, but different.

Kai,

Your thread heading states it's a Rennsport Chip. Do you mean that it's actually not a Steve Wong chip rather a Stevie at Rennsport Chip?

In any case, if it is a Steve Wong chip, I agree there is much development that went into it, and is an awesome addition to our "chase for perfection..." I love mine!

Happy 4th ya'll.....

Wong is incorrect...is there a play on words here?

The car has a Steve Weiner Rennsport-Systems chip.

I guess to be really correct, it might be a GIAC chip that Garrett made and Steve sells.

"Rennsport Systems offers GIAC performance chips for all Porsches built from 1990-onward. Performance enhancing software generally requires the use of 92 octane (pump) or better, however 996 & later models can operate very well with programming specifically made for 91."

I stand corrected...I thought people were using Steve W as short-hand for Steve Wong

Many folks do and therein lies the confusion.

Our 964 software is mostly custom files made for us and licensed by GIAC.

Steve, do you offer versions of the GIAC chip for typical differences - fuel octane, muffler or cat bypasses, etc? If so, how do they differ? And did GIAC do dyno testing for these typcial differences in octane or exhaust?

Thanks.
