Default ABS activation speed

Hi,
Does anyone know if the ABS will only activate above a certain speed ? Recently I braked heavily at about 50 km/hr on a dry paved road. I managed to lock up the front wheels (This is reproducible and no I haven't tried a higher speed as I value my tyres) No pulsations through the pedal. No abs or other warning lights on. The local Porsche mechanic says that I may noy have been travelling fast enough to activate the ABS. This makes no sense to me. Any thoughts ?
Thanks in advance.

Theres no min speed. It should be activating. If you abs light comes on with the ignition and goes out when you fire up then the problem is likely mechanical eg dirty sensors or stuck abs modulator. If you get no light at all then the warning bulb has been removed.

Mine had a similar issue, while it was in being fixed, the mech tested a couple of other 964s they had in, each had the same issue. Mine turned out to be the abs modulator, had to be diagnosed using a pts1 tester, which lets you test the build-hold-release sequence of the abs pulse.

I guess the route cause is a combi of, age, lack of use (the stock brakes are good so its tough to lock up), or incorrect maintenance (you really need a hammer or pts1 to flush old fluid from the abs modulator).

thats great, you do have to try hard to get it to kick in on dry roads.
