Regarding the clips, they're a three pronged plastic clip that slips into the keyed hole and there is a piston that slips into the center of the three prongs to spread them out and keep the clip in place. I used a skinny flat head screwdriver to back the piston out by prying it from the back. No problem once I figured that out.
On the orientation of the tops on the fronts, I'd recommend taking a picture of them in the trunk compartment before you start. That way, you will know how to orient the tops when you put them back in.
