964 rear shocks
Crap. Got a great deal on Bilstein HDs and red HR springs for my '91 but now it turns out that I need the early '91 rear shocks. I'm assuming I'll send them back, (hassle). The alternative is to do a spacer like some people have done (hassle), but I thought I'd ask here for advice.
I personally wouldn't knowingly use the wrong part if the correct one is still available.
When was you car manufactured? I see some ads that say for use on cars manufactured "after Nov 1st 1990" and some just say after "November 1990". Not sure of the exact cut-off.
I have the newer ones...

thx Laker,
yeah, apparently the cutoff day isn't exactly set in stone either. a few earlier cars had later configurations and a few later cars had earlier configurations. lesson learned is to get photos of the two, pull the airbox, take a look, and then you know. the websites just sell them as 1989-90 vs 1991-1994 so beware.
if it's an easy conversion that's one thing, otherwise it probably doesn't make sense.

I've seen pictures on here of the two options. Fairly easy to tell the difference, but I didn't pay much attention since mine is an 89. I've also seen a write up on the shock tower mod. Too bad you're going newer model to older or I'd take them off your hands if you're facing a restocking fee. I need a set for my "new" greens.
Isn't all that's required is an appropriately sized spacer that will drop the position of the shock/spring assembly to make up for the higher position in your car? Depending on how good the deal was, it may very well be worth it to figure this out. This may help... https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...2+rear+spacers
I think the hats/bumps etc were different to, so it's the aggregate difference of the two assemblies you really need to account for with the spacer. If possible you want to use your hats since the bolt spacing is different between the two year ranges. Ideally you'd pull your existing assembly out and compare the new one but that's not always an option.
Good luck!

I am in the same position, looking to upgrade my suspension. My Mechanic tells me Porsche screwed up the front end ride height on the C4s from 89-91, they ride about 2" too high in the front. He said I can correct with a set of M030 or Euro springs. C Didy, what model do you have? does the front ride high?
1991 C2. US height is just too high unless going for a Paris Dakar build.
Mine are for sale. Retail usually around $170 each.
Pair of rear shocks. Never mounted. Fit late '91 through 1994 964s.

that's $340 a pair, does anyone want them for $260?
thx.

zizu- I got them from Automotion, @$140 each shipped, on sale.
Laker- Automotion was really good at first, said they'd trade because I bought them for a '91 as recommended by them. One guy I talked to was understanding and we agreed to split the shipping, (don't know that I really should have to) and we had a deal. Then I got an email from them and they won't cover the shipping either way so now it's really sixes to me if I ship them back or to someone else. Not a huge deal but not quite right, so, kinda bummer.
As for doing a conversion spacer, it looks do-able from the links, but it's a bit of a PITA.
For now its:
BRAND NEW REAR BILSTEIN HD's , NEVER MOUNTED, LATE 1991-1994 964'S, FOR SALE
$270
and I'm in the market for a replacement pair to fit my 1991.
