Default Broken front boot cable

Hi everybody,
I am travelling at the moment and the front boot cable broke, probably due to open the boot to often to cut off small batterie,
As I remember the emergency cable is not even connected , does any one knows how to open it from the front with out damaging the hood, is it possible to do it with a flat piece of metal thank for your help

Why do you say the emergency cable is not connected? Do you know it has been removed on your car?

If you do not have the emergency cable, you are SOL. There are various ways to open the trunk without a cabe but all of them entail coming (drilling) through the floor board. Here is a picture of what the mechanism looks like:

One more of the emergency cable:

The early cars don't have an emergency release cable - something I've been meaning to resolve on mine for many years. This thread finally inspired me to get around to it - I finally have an emergency cable, coming out behind the indicator (threaded through the large grommet next to the earth point in the pic above).

If you have a car with the cable release, here's what the system looks like:

When and if you get this sorted, you should be able to go to any motor factor in the uk and order a universal throttle cable kit. It is a basic heavy duty cable and sleeve, and is long enough to do the front and back. Part number FKA1026 (made by a company called Firstline). Because it comes with a sleeve it will look OE (eventhough they never came with a sleeve) and it will work when needed.

A couple of front and back pics of mine that i installed (if you can't get a bike cable locally) I used a simple electrical cable connector to clamp the cable in a loop. (waxoyl applied to front exposed cable in arch)

You got to pull the driver side wheel well liner out , then you see the cable loop end.

If your car is a 1991 or older it does not have the cable installed from the factory. Here is a link to how I got the hood open on mine when the cable broke, it was a bit of a bear, but it worked.
Good luck, and let us know how you are making out, we are here to help.

I just replaced my cable last night it was starting to break at the latch. I also added a emergency cable with a bike brake cable I got from Walmart for $5. I ran it into the side light so if I ever need to use it I am only one screw away.

Hi Guys,

thanks for your comments and pictures, I just got back home, tomorrow morning I get all my tools out and I will try and open the trunck, first by dismatling the handle and pull strongly the cable, if I am not lucky I will try to use a rod through the rubber seal as suggested by Steen, the good thing is that I do not have any trims or spare tyre in there....

(see the pic), or the larger one which feeds the cables to the lights (although there'll be less room in the arch due to the 'dome' of the headlamp).
Feed a wire coat hanger in with a 'hook' on the end. Follow the lip at the front of the boot section along until you hit the locking mechanism. Try to latch the hook on the mechanism and pull.

It WILL be frustrating.

It WILL take a good few goes.

It WILL be worth the refreshing cold beer which you put in the fridge right at the start of the procedure.
