Yes, but only on my boxster (I have a set for winter). The offsets are fine for the 964 but I wouldn't put them on there because I feel that the 964 needs a wider wheel/tyre at the rear. More so than the boxster. And to be honest, the boxster 16s are not a very good looking wheel IMO. The 5 spoke 16s that earlydays has are much better looking. Here's the set I used to have on mine:

I would only run safer forge wheels on the track. Do not think OZ's are forged.

Call me weird, but my favorite would be keeping to the original Design 90's but trying to find the ultra-rare -magnesium- alloy ones that were made to be significantly lighter than the stock wheels to ship on special models. I am not certain about which cars they came on (RS ?) or even if you can find them, but maybe some of the gurus would know. (or I can check Streather's book to find out.).

The 16 or 17" cup wheels would be my second choice, but somehow I like the simplicity/funkiness of the standard wheels that it came with.

They are tested, and approved to the same JWL, VIA, TUV, and standards as forged wheels.
For real comparison and to give you guys some hard data I decided to match the load ratings of the low pressure cast, shot peened, and heat treated Alleggeritas to some forged wheels of the same size:
OZ Alleggerita 18 x 8.5, 40 ET = 1234 lbs.
BBS LM 18 x 8.5 = 1576 lbs
BBS RS-GT 18 x 8.5 = 1573 lbs.
SSR GT3 18 x 8.5 = 1518 lbs.
TRM F2 18 x 8.5 = 1620 lbs.
Volk TE37 = 1521 lbs.

Now, compare this to a gravity cast Enkei NT03 = 1576 lbs.

In theory the gravity cast wheel should have the lowest load capacity, but this one is right up there with forged wheels. Why? How it's shaped certainly, but also the quality of the construction. Enkei makes a very good wheel. The OZ may not have the highest load capacity, but it's close. And with a total rated capacity at almost 5000 lbs for the set this is CERTAINLY higher than the GAWR of the car.

If you mean the supposed 16" Mg wheels that equipped the 964 C4 lightweight, they do not exist. It is a myth that has been debunked by a frew people who examined the cars up close.

The 17" Cup 1 that equip the 964 RS do exist however.

If anyone is looking for a set of the CUP 1 mags, I know of a fantastic set available here in the states. 7.5 and 9 x 17's. They are indeed very light, more than 20 Lbs (set) lighter than the alloys. Very expensive though, as I recall $8.9K. Wow!

964racer - there are forged d90's that came on the 951 and some 928's. If you like the d90 style, then those are bound to be light and strong. I think they come in 7/8/9" widths. Rare though.

ps- I can't recommend the Continental DWS tires. I tried to give them a chance, but they turned the 964 into a '70's Lincoln. Very smooth and quiet ride, but the car floats all over the highway and feels like steering a bus. That's compared to the Kumho ASX, which are still soft all-seasons. Thanks to the Tirerack folks, I'm swapping out the Conti's for Yoko Avid S.4. We'll see how they do.

It was the 16" Design 90 wheels that were Mg alloy insteaad of aluminum. Heard that from a fellow PCA members and also saw a reference in one of the UK Porsche magazines a few years go. Don't have any other data...I checked "The 911 Companion" and didn't find anything on it - so maybe your're right. I'll have to stick with my design 90's...I think they are lighter than any of the other stock wheels from that era.

Why should shockers be worn out if they have not leaked? If by pushing down on the car the car resists as it should and comes back up, and there are no leaks, in engineering terms how can the shockers be "goosed"? I'm interested to know. Is it not just that you can feel the benefit of fitting alternative units with different performance characteristics?

Has anyone run Boxster 986 16" 6J & 7J alloys on a 964?

My 964 was originally delivered with the forged dish wheels from the 928s of the era. Furthermore, they were chrome with painted crests. The dealer di the Chrome and crests. I have the window sticker with the dealer add-on for the wheels from 22 yrs ago.

When I acquired the car in 1997, I immediately put on a pair of the 16" cup wheels taken off of a '93 964. I know others might disagree, but I think that the 16 cup wheels are by far the best looking wheels on a 964. But I thought that the factory sizes were 6 and 8 F and R. I thought that the wider ones were all after market.

I also have the 16" Cup wheels on my car ('90 C2) and they are factory wheels and the fronts are 7".
