Default Risk of fire?

My headlight switch is giving me trouble and if it wasn´t for my battery cut off switch I surely would be worried about my parked car having a short circuit and maybe starting an electric fire.
Can I drive it safely?, the new switch is on the way but it would take another week or so to get it here

Henry,

How long have you had the xenon's, and did you install relays? There is a chance that some of your wiring may be melting and that you are now seeing the results.

+1 on the wiring. If you're drawing too many amps you are most definitely damaging switches...like the main light switch and the dimmer on the steering column.

AFAIK the xenon lights were installed by the PO in the official Porsche dealer, I didn´t have any worries with the switch or the xenon lights till now from sept. 2007 when I bought the car

Hmmmm. Ck with your mechanic to confirm they installed relay's. The xenons and other high output lighting draw a heavy load that puts stress on the wire coating (heat). Maybe it took 4 years to finally wear down. Replacing the switch alone will not solve the problem if it's actually that wires are melting together.
