Default ABS Pump rebuild - Well, trying...

So, the ABS pump on my 964 is not working. I'm not sure why it isn't, so I decided to try to take it apart. I've not found any information on how to rebuild the 964 ABS pump, so I'm shooting in the dark here.

The background on my ABS pump is that the car was sitting for about 3 years and had not been moved or driven in this time. I've been going through it with the proverbial fine toothed comb to get it back up to it's capabilities.

I'll try to post pics as I go along and I'd like some of you guys to help along the way!

This sounds like an interesting project. Good luck.

Default BBA Reman

You can send your ABS pump to this factory and have it tested, cleaned out, etc.

You may also send them your ABS control module for testing.

SKM: The BBA guys said that they would not be able to rebuild my ABS pump and that they would only be able to source a used one for me. This was when I talked to one of the reps about a month ago.

That is a problem when you use UFO technology to build a car.

Here's a pic of the beginning of the tear down.

After the ABS pump is removed from the vehicle, you'll notice the black relays and electrical mounting box.

There is a red (14AWG) wire secured by a screw to the top of the mounting box. Remove it.

Remove the relays. Locate the 2 screws near the relay sockets and remove. (These screws attach to the motor's external shell.)

Now, locate 2 large screws on the end of the motor. These large screws mount the motor to the pump housing. Remove the screws. Now you should be able to pull the electric motor from the rest of the assembly.

Check the salvage yards (outside of LA Porsche unless you want to pay new list $+). Have picked these units up for $2-400 before.

As you can see in the first picture, there are 2 wires coming off of the motor.

TO TEST: Apply 12V to red wire and GND to brown wire. If the motor spins with power applied, your motor is good.

So, if I could use a little of everyone's brain power...I'd like to find out what kind of bit would be necessary to get these 2 star-shaped screws open. I've never seen any kind of bit driver this shape and size.

Does anyone know?

May not need to as these may be only for machining at the time of manufacture.

I looked at the part again and I really do see a threaded edge around it. So, I'm pretty convinced that it comes apart. Any other ideas?
