There have been a lot of great articles recently about the 964...but they're usually in Porsche specific magazines. So it was nice to read this article in EVO magazine a couple months back in their Porsche VS. Ferrari issue.
Now the article is online:
Porsche 964 RS v Ferrari 348 GT Competizione
The 1990s 964 RS is now one of the most sought-after Porsches, but its even rarer Ferrari counterpart remains a relative unknown. Richard Meaden finds out if the mysterious 348 GTC can give the iconic 964 RS a run for its money

Ferrari is rubbish. It is cool rubbish, but rubbish nonetheless, so maybe when it's working, which is maybe 5% of the time, it can give Porsche a run for its money. The rest of the time it's just cool to look and point at.

I've followed Dickie Meaden's 964RS Running Report in Evo magazine for years, with envy. He's a decent journo' with exquisite taste.
Thanks for posting the online article ~

I've got a friend with 120-130K miles on his. Owned since about a year old. More expensive than a 911 of any type? Sure, by multiples. But it's been his track bitch the whole time, and I really haven't heard any absurd stories over the years.

348? had all kinds of problems. Mostly stupid problems, transmission problems and was staggering in the maintance dept. in fact I was behind one the other day and the reverse lights came on ever time he shifted into second gear.... and that was after they fixed the trans.

Yeah, 348. A '91? All I remember is that I was in town and staying with him when he got it. Had to move the 308 when he bought it, but kept his Testarossa around for a few more years. Was funny that he was so curious which was quicker, and topped out higher, between the TR and 348. So he throws me the keys to the nearly new 348 (and NO ONE else drove his Ferraris) and off we go into the abyss of then not-so-completed Phoenix freeways. It was literally the only time I've experienced "the draft." Verdict was that aero mattered more, as I got in front of the TR.
They featured him in one of the Ferrari mags a couple of years ago. It's pretty much modified like most of us do with 911s, as a dual purpose DE/street car. Rare in the Ferrari world. But a serious driver--along the way he had a CART champ car for kicks, one of the last MFI cars so he could actually start it without a whole team to accompany him.
