Default Too much oil

Seems that the 964 I just bought has too much oil in it : on the indicator stick the oil is 2 cm above maximum
Do I need to get oil out of the car or can I drive the car as is and wait for it to come down ?
How do I drain a liter or 2 ?
Thanks
Eric

I assume you are checking it when hot and the oil thermostat is fully open?

Crankcase holds about 3 litres, you can take the plug off and replace it before it empties (messy) ..do this when engine is not hot.

air line tubing for an aquarium from a pet store. $2 for 6 feet. stick it down the dipstick hole and siphon the extra out. Will take a while (1 hour per quart), but you get to enjoy looking at your car.
avoid driving the car. Extra oil can get sucked into the intake and mess up the idle among other things.

Yes it works but is messy, first time I changed oil I overfilled it (using capacity listed in manual) dumped the crankcase and it was where it should be)

I do like the siphon method Laker mentions (and his use of time while waiting to drain!)
Right under max is not bad though!

Any estimation on how much/how long should come out before locking that sucker up?

Here is the easy way ... no mess or stress

I use this pump for Oil Analysis on a regular basis.

I've drained oil from the crankcase by loosening the drain bolt, but *not* removing it. The oil begins leaking past the bolt pretty quickly and you can get a pretty good stream going without removal of the nut. Then just tighten it back up when you've pulled a quart, or two.

It only takes a few seconds to dump a quart or two, if you remove the drain plug..by the time you take it out and put it back on a couple of quarts will be in your drain pan
dfinnegan is correct as well

I used to have a pump that operated off 12v, it was for draining oil from the dipstick tube (a bad idea) I used it to pump fluid into transmission...it would also work for pumping oil from the filler spout if you didnt want to siphon..another gadget from JC Whitney (no affiliation)

This is a good link to review before you start your oil change.
