Decided to make new post (sorry for spam chaps)
Putting my alt pulley back together.Have one outside nut and 3 shims. Shouldnt there be additional spacers? Or did I just have the three shims between the pulley halfs and the nut holding it together? No washer on here?
Anyone got pics/diagrams?
Thanks,

I believe that there should be six (6) shims; always. They simply move inside and outside of the pulley halves in order to adjust the tension on the belt. But, there should always be the same number of shims to make things tighten down correctly.

+ Belt tensioning shims
(3) each 11 & 15
0.5 mm and 0.7 mm (has a .2mm drilled hole)
check pet for part number and order some
PET 105-00
(3) 964.106.517.01 shim
(3) 964.106.268.00 shim
And, according to boxsey911:
None of the shims should be placed 'fan side' of the half pulleys. You
put the required number of shims between the half pulleys to create the
correct tension (none makes it the tightest and 4 make it the
loosest). Unused shims are then 'stored' bumper side (i.e. they have no
effect on tension).
As a guide, I found that when I put new belts on that two shims between
each pulley gave the right tension. It's also important to ensure the
pulley halves mate together evenly by tightening the three nuts that
pull them together a little bit at a time and continually feeding the
belt round the pulley to prevent it jamming.

lots of brilliant info, thanks for compiling. Well I've got 3. It's not possible to tighten the assembly with just the nut. No other washers or spacer?just the nut and 6 shims spaced so as to create the correct tension?

I'm sure there must be a big fat spacer or something here? It doesn't make sense. There's way too big of a gap. Is there anyone who had recently changed a 964 alternator belt that can chime in?

Funny, I just had my alternator off, but I simply pulled all of the shims, pulley halves, nut, etc and placed them on a zip-tie, in order. Then put them back in order and failed to note just how many of each that I had.

If you look closely at the first pic you'll see that there is:
I think that my "extra" flat washer, next to the nut, is not supposed to be there.
- a pulley half
- three shims
- another pulley half
- three more shims
- a fat washer
