Autozone has the 12 point bit in a set, runs about 18 bucks

Also available is an emergency fan belt kit that has a clamp attachment, you cut the belt to fit and then use the clamp to hold it...also have seen one that is made of tubing and there is a piece that glues in to hold it together

Buy one and you may never need it!

If you have your tool kit, there is a 12 point right angle socket that will fit your pulley.

Bought a 10mm (3/8?) bit online. Went and called over 5 or 6 local auto parts stores but could not source.

Anyway, appears at first try that the 10mm is perhaps too big. Going to spend some proper time on it later...

It maybe that there is burring on the inside if the shaft. There looks to be minor stripping on the inside of the shaft.

I have it in now after some gentle cleaning and help from a mallet.

Next question: how to loosen this bolt? I'm really concerned about stripping the shaft thread, any suggestions for loosening it prior to applying torque?Heat gun? Penetrating oil?

Haha, thanks Rob, it's always the simple stages they sonoften provide the biggest stumbling blocks...

Now I'm struggling to remove the ac belt even though I've shifted the compresser all the way to the left; it's v. loose but doesn't want to come off.

I'll tell you that you can do this with a plain old long flathead screwdriver, but people get a little touchy about "non-porsche approved" repairs, so I won't go any further.
