After the H4 project and after the suspension refurb I'm going to rehab the stereo system.
This is what I have so far:
1. Focal 8" subs
2. Rod Birch enclosures
3. Focal 5.25 Component speakers
4. Nano Amp
5. Alpine Amp
To Be Determined:
Head Unit - Either a Pioneer MVH-8200BT or The expensive "Unit" from Porsche
Rear Speakers - No idea on what to buy, it has to be a 4 X 6 speaker to fit
Looking for good speakers that will appear stock, any thoughts
I believe other things will fit the rear with modifications. I think the 4x6" are pretty much useless. Someone makes a rear deck replacement that fits a shallow 6x9, but it isn't cheap! Since there is no need to "go back to stock", I would be willing to cut bigger holes to fit better speakers, the problem seems to be the drivers side has a hump near the speaker area due to the metal shaped to fit a rear wiper motor that my car doesn't have. Anyone gone larger back there? I should think another pair of 6.5" seps could go back there as long as they were shallow.

I would definitely upsize the fronts, 6.5's fit with very little trouble.
Most of the time the engine makes plenty of good music, however, there are those times that I want to listen to something and it needs to be loud and clear.
wonder if you can modify the bose system from the 997?
I think the door speakers would fit well but the rear deck subwoofer box?....hmmm think that would have a fairly good sound if you could do a bit of nipping and trimming...
I would love to put 6.5 Focals in the front, but I want to use the factory speaker grill and keep that stock look. Does anyone know if you can use a 6.5 and keep the factory grill. I know the speaker will fit, but it's the grill that I am concerned about.
I have the Kenwood version of that Pioneer multimedia receiver. I think you will like it real well. A very clean look in the dash, without all the over the top graphics. I went with the Kenwood as it was $114 at the local Best Buy. The previous owner replaced all the speakers and added an outboard amplifier. It sounds way better than the Bose system in my '08 Audi TT.
I replaced the factory units with Infinity Kappa 462.9 CFP rear speakers, fit right in the old inclosure, very pleased with the sound.
+1. I wanted to do them to match the Kappa Perfect components I put in the doors, but I had some pretty good Pioneer plates in the rear so I left them. if you install the other components you list, you'll never hear whatever you put back there.
After changing over to an Alpine am/fm/cd and apline front/rear speakers the sound was still suspect. I realized that it was the rear speakers that would make the difference. We need more base in the rear due to the small rear speaker output. I installed Rockford Fosgate 6x9 R1693 speakers and that made all the difference in the word. We need good 6x9 rear speakers for base and your done. Don't get me wrong as you can outfit the rear pasenger area with all kinds of speaker boxes and base units and do better but I am talking about keeping it clean with the exception of larger speakers on the rear shelf.
