Default Deals on Motor Oil Thread (US)

No affiliation, etc... knocks the price down of Valvoline VR1 20W50 to $2.49 Qt. in my area . No Limit

In my humble opinion, a very decent dino oil with plenty of ZDDP.

I am currently running this in the C4. Haven't had an analysis done on it yet, but I will post the results when I get them.

Had been running Brad Penn 20W-50

Cheers

Is this a covert attempt to start another oil thread?

Campo, it is the same as when your wife brings home four pairs of shoes because they were on sale

wasn't trying to start a "which oil is best" thread, rather a $40 oil change thread The stuff is decent enough and at $2.50 a qt, you could do 3 oil changes for the price of some. I have two cases stockpiled in case this whole middle east thing goes down, but it looks like the national strategic reserve of 20W50 is in Omaha NE.

Avoiding a long dialogue about motor oil - but, do you run the risk of gasket deterioration with swapping between synthetic and mineral based motor oil?

there is more of a chance of synthetic oils being thinner (for the same weight) and having better detergents to eat away the (conventional) gunk holding the gaskets together. Was more of a problem when synthetics were first introduced 20 years ago. Have never heard of issues going synthetic to conventional.

So, is This valvoline one of the "approved" high ZDDP oils?

I don't know if it is 'approved' by any formal body. It does have 1400ppm Zinc and 1300ppm Phosphorus which is plenty.

Last deal I got on Oil was Mobil1 full synth at walmart for 20.50 a gallon...that was 7 or eight months ago...probably never see that price again... and I really appreciate the heads up on this, I always felt that the 15/50 was too thin for summer use and will be doing next few oil changes with my new strategic reserve of Valvoline, picked up 4 cases and frankly, I think I will get a few more as soon as I stash what I have...it sure isnt going to get any cheaper!
