Default Black D90s?

Hi Fellas,
I've got D90s. I might change them longer term but in the short term was thinking of painting them black, but leaving the outer rim silver. My thinking was it might improve their apearance on a dark coloured car with a black targa roof. Has anyone pianted theirs black or have any pictures to show how they'd look.
All the best.
Dave

I thought about this when I first got my car and couldn't find many photos of 964s with black D90s. I took that as a sign and bought a set of 944 narrow spoke wheels and painted them black. In my opinion there is too much surface area on the D90 wheel to go black and it's why they don't look quite right in chrome either.

Here are a couple of photos of D90 wheels painted black, some with the trim left silver.

IMHO i think they look the best in the last pic where the entire outer rim is left alone and the centercap is painted but the crest is left silver.

Maybe a project for the summer as i have two sets on d90's just sittin around (one with track tires, and one with snows) and a black c4.

I think the D90s in black make them look smaller than they really are. Too much to paint...I'd polish them or paint them grey/gun metal colour.

Thanks for your replies. I agree, the D90s seem to have a large surface area and in silver/alloy they seem to stand out too much against the car at the moment. I like Brand-FL's last pic and that was the sort of thing I had in mind. I'd not not thought about a gunmetal/graphite grey but I reckon that might look the best.
Cheers
Dave

Thanks. Looks good on grey. I just managed to edit the colour of mine on a photo with powerpoint. So in theory they would like attached photos, either all black or with a silver rim. Both look an improvement.

Either one looks good, especially with the extra black panel of your Targa frame.

The silver ring on the top picture reminds me a little bit of the classic Fuchs style polished rim. (from a distance). All black looks great also...less classic, MORE menacing.

like the first version with the silver lip. Like Jetta says it gives a slight Fuchs look.

Black looks sharp! Very sports purpose.

Any idea what the largest tire size you can put on these D90's, for track use? They are very light. Thanks.

Thanks again for your opinions as what looks good inside my head doesn't always look good to anyone else! The only size of ti(y)re I've seen documented is the standard size I'm afraid
205/55 ZR 16 6 J x 16 52.0/52.3 Front
225/50 ZR 16 8 J x 16 52.0/52.3 Rear

I love the matt black with the polished rims. I've just had my D90s refurbed and I'm kicking myself for not going with this

Black with silver rims - they look quite good actually.

I think the rims should be polished though and not painted.

The last picture from Brandon-FL looks right on the money.

I'll look out for you on the roads. You should be easy to spot if you get them done like that.
