Default tire rub with stock wheels. what am i looking for?

i have searched the forum but all tire rub threads are started by people that have changed something.

My '92 C2 Cab suddenly developed a tire rub on the oil line at the rear.

Stock wheels with 255/40 tires. nothing changed.

Stock suspension and shocks seems fine. A bit wet but not leaking.

Where should i start?

When was the last time you had the alignment checked? And have you changed how you are driving the car? Perhaps more aggressively recently?

Tire pressure is OK.
alignment was done 2 months ago and yes i did hit a pothole. Did not seem that hard at the time.

Yes, i am maybe driving the car a bit harder. i have some excellent roads to enjoy the car on. lots of sharp turns and hilly. love it.

Rubbing the oil line is bad. I know I'm stating the obvious. If you don't find another cause, I would invest in some wheel spacers to stop it as soon as possible. My cab has never rubbed but my coupe rubbed until I added spacers. I first tried 4mm spacers which fixed one side but the left side continued to rub. I then went up to 6.25mm spacers which fixed it. According to Adrian's book, you can go up to 5mm without changing the wheel stud length. As part of adding spacers, I changed from the alloy lug nuts to steel. In my case, I installed 10mm longer wheel studs with my 6.25mm spacers.

If you hit a bump, be sure to check the rim carefully. You may have bent the inside lip, which is rubbing on the oil line, but is otherwise not noticeable.
