Driver Side Wind Noise...Fixed
Guys,
Just thought I would post so others can understand the ease and share in the satisfaction.
Last weekend was the first weekend where the weather wasn't too cold and I had some time. I had a lot of wind noise via the drivers side that started around 45-50 mph and only got worse with speed. The driver door seal was ripped at the bottom, but I had always doubted that was a source and cause of the noise.
Well, I spent the whopping 10 minutes to pull the old seal out (the PO had probably glued it in a few places, but other than those places it just slipped right out. I then used a wet rag to clean the groove out and then proceeded to slip the new seal in place of the old one starting with the sharp corner. About 5 whole minutes later I closed the door and even the opening and closing of the door felt better.
On the drive into work this morning I listened and listened and the previous wind noise was no more.
So, for me the wind noise was an easy DIY to fix and there is no need to use any weatherstripping adhesive or glue of any kind. I purchased the seal from Pelican for somewhere around $35.
Enjoy,

An odd question and off topic, but I am interested to know about the new seals you fitted. Do the drain holes in them face to the inside of the car or the outside. Sounds like a daft question, but my new seals from Porsche have the holes facing inwards and I find that water pools inside the seal and is 'fired' into the car when I close the door. I can't remember what the old seals were like, but someone did point out to me that this is a known issue and that later 993 seals are better.
I remember seeing the little drain holes on the top of the seal that is along the floor. I will try to check later to see if they are on both sides (top and bottom), but I can't imagine much water getting in them at all and would guess they are more for air to escape from the seal and not water...I'm no automotive engineer/expert though.

I think Skip could be right about the holes in the seal being air holes to allow the seal to compress rather them being drain holes. I saw water in the old door seals and the new ones. If I pressed on the seal it would squirt out of those holes. Later, I changed my door membranes and I no longer get water in the door seals. So, my way of thinking is that water was getting into those holes by way of leaking membranes, not from the outside.
The holes along the bottom are on the top not the bottom of the seal.
I bought mine on Pelican and it wasn't a Porsche Part, which I believe they don't make anymore, but the 993 seal from Porsche was in the $250 range, where the one I used was $38 and for the 964 it fits either side: driver or passenger. Click Here

Steve, interesting what you say about the door membranes, but I replaced those with new Porsche items when I had the retrim done at Southbound, which is when the door seals were replaced. I aslo noted yesterday that I now have a drip onto the passneger seat which appeared to be coming from the top of the door seal! It rained all night long. Spoke to Southbound and they said it was a reported issue with the seals they now get i.e. from Forestfine and is cured by adding a small hole to the outer, lower edge of the seal to let the water drain out. Will probably try that, but was also thinking that perhaps the felt seals on the door frame have had it and are letteing water past the seal.

Interesting and annoying. I wonder if it was always a flaw with the door seals or just an issue with the currently available items. I still can't work out how the rain gets into the seal in the first place. Let me know if you work it out.
