I'm not 100% sure it's my ecu just yet.. reason I say, is that I used a generic cable and the durametric software to connect to my tip ecu and that's how I managed to pull the 21 code... but for some reason, the durametric (vers 5) wouldnt connect to me dme and I wanted to see if my engine ecu had any errors..
Tonight I was able to verify that there are no errors on my engine ecu using my friends scantool, but for some reason it wont connect to my tip.. in fact, the 3 or 4 times we have used his scantool, it has never been able to connect to my tip..

Can I ask where you found reference to the #21 error usually being related to an ecu fault? If it is, then I am OK with that.. as I can buy a second hand one (hopefully not also a dud) and all my problems will be fixed (till the next one)...
I'm trying to put 2 +2 together, you state that you can't connect up via the Scantool. Found the info in the Porsche Workshop manual Vol. 3 Tip Transmission diagnostic section. it's a large pdf and isn't cooperating with my software to allow me to extract segments. Perhaps some other Rennlister could point you to a site to download it.

turns out my ecu was faulty...
I located a second hand one, plugged it in, and no errors and no more limp home mode.

Not sure why the original one failed...

Did the purchase of your new control unit require a core exchange of your previous ?

Michael,

Are you interested in selling your faulty ecu? If so, PM me.
