Windscreen question for 964Russ
Russ,
I had my windscreen replaced about four years ago but I've recently noticed that my seal has shrunken back on the top corner of the drivers side so that you can see the recess the screen is fitted in.
The car has been parked in a garage so there should be no water ingress but when i start using it again and washing it i don't want water to get in and then sit at the bottom of the screen behind the seal not being able to drain out.
I wondered is it easy to remove and replace without breaking it for a fitter? The screen is Sigla and the seal was a genuine Porsche part but i didn't watch the actual fitting so don't know how they fitted it regarding bonding.
I bow to your knowledge

The glass is probably a tad small, and with age the rubber has shrank.
Try a put a small rubber packer under the rubber against the glass this will push the seal back, Russ,s top tip for the day!
Ive got hundreds in the van you can have as many as you like.
Or you remove the glass try a new rubber, different screen maybe?
Cant remember who makes OE porche screens.
Some fall out others are very tight, depends which route you wana go down.
New glass or new rubber?

Mine does that. I find if I push the rubber towards the A pillars it will fit flush again. However, over time it migrates back again
Russ, bring some of those rubber packers to the RS day at Oulton if you can?

I will even fit them for you steve, dont know if i can make the rs day, work is not playin the game!
But ill sort it no probs.
Rubber packer/spacer, they come in many sizes allmost all manafacs use them during automotive glazing. Thay are used to spacer glass against bodywork, metal and glass dont mix well.
The ones i have mentioned are about 8mm long by 5mm rectangle, made of a firm rubber (tyre typre).
You can push 1 of them inbetween the glass to rubber edge of a screen and this will make up the gap from the small copy screen, packs the rubber of the glass filling the gap.

My screen rubber does that on the top corner of the drivers side, but only has since having a new screen.
I suspect as there appears to be 4 of us here with the problem, that it's a common one.
So how long does the rubber packer need to be on average Russ?
Hopefully this is an alternative to taking the screen out to re position the rubber.
Bob.

John, i cant believe your screen rubber is doin this!
Your car is probably the tightest porsche screen i have ever fitted, mega tight, had to beat it in!!!
Its so tight it took 2 attempts. There will allways be movement in the rubber, the temp will affect it, makin it shrink and expand.
And your screen is OE with OE rubber!

I know. :-)
It's only a tiny, tiny bit of creep I'm talking about. Just enough to let the outer edge of the seal move slightly into the hollow, at the top corner on one side. I nudge it back each time I wash the car.

Russ, I'd apreciate your help too...
Last summer I had a new screen & rubber fitted by Autoglass/Insurance Co. I get the same top corner problem + a minor leak as well.
It's definately not a Porsche screen; marked "AST1" on both edges.
I guess Autoglass will just want to pack it full of sealant. Would that work / or would re-fitting it with a proper Porsche seal be a better idea?
Cheers
Vic

Vic, you want a OE screen or same manafac as OE (dosnt have to have the porche mark on it). If its leaking it needs sorting.
I think the "ast1" is a sumthing else, they all have that, thats where the toptint starts?
Theres only 2 or 3 manafacs, you just need a good un.
I it is an Oe glass maybe the new rubber is a copy?
A long time ago i watched a screen being fitted in a 911 with an old mk2 fiesta rubber, looks the same but aint right!
