Do you let your kid drive your car?
While I don't have any children, I know many of you do. For those of you with kids old enough to drive, do you let them drive your car? If no, why not?

Hell Yes!
Its called "family fun"!
My boys (grown) drive the P-cars anytime I have them out while they're around. Actually, they were permitted to drive my old 73.5T, with me as a passenger, as soon as they had their driver's permits. Of course at the time they got their permits they each had about 18 months of experience driving the daily driver around large parking lots on Saturday afternoons.

My six year-old daughter has another 7-8 years of helping with oil changes before consideration of driver's seat time...
Should be ready (potentially) for her first DE by 2020.
God, help us all.

My daughter is now 20. She has driven the Porsche to High School twice, and had it out a couple of other times. She has been to DE's with the PCA, not as a driver, but she has had ride alongs with instructors.
She gets 2 things. How dangerous and powerful this car is. And what her dad would do if she did anything stupid in it.

my insurance prohibits anyone under 25 from driving it, and my son just got his license. No seat time for his yet. As for the younger 2, they have about 10-14 yrs before they can think about a license.

I did once, luckily it only cost me $150.00 to get the curb rash off the wheels, when I pointed it out to my son his answer was "Whoops"
I told him that I would be buried in the car before he got another chance in the left seat.. (besides that he wont let me use his car (which I bought!)
No the PCar is mine and its gonna stay that way..

Three Wheelin'
haha, I thought April Fool's wasn't for another couple months???
Not only have my kids NEVER driven ANY of my cars, the extra keys have always been locked up and the keys I use are always on my person.
My kids have always had their own vehicles, and when they were serviceable, they had wheels. When they wrecked 'em, they rode the bus. They are well into their 20's now and very responsible drivers, but they were holy terrors when they were teens and they learned on my dime. I have lots of pics I could post if you want a stark visual. I'm just fortunate that in all the incidents, no one ever got hurt.
Drive the Porsche??? I hated for them to even know I HAD one...
Do a search on "kids" + "insurance", stuff like that, you'll find some great threads here. One in particular about a guy who bought a Boxster S for his 16-yr-old daughter. I hope it worked out okay, but that one went on for several pages of peoples' experiences similar to mine,
saying "NO NO NO !!!".
"I want to bond with my kid and the car."
Right - go to a baseball game instead.
"I want to teach him correct defensive driving techniques."
Uh-huh...Kids' brains don't work like ours do, and they won't for several more years. Driving training is great - but in the clutch, likely as not he'll still make the wrong decision. With your car.
Man after my own heart...

Taught my friend's daughter, when she was 13, to drive with my 901 box'd '68-into-IROC/930 wannabe with a big engine. So what, they're cars? I got that one when I was 18 and never spun it in its initial form as a SWB 2.0S. (I did crunch a front fender on dirt one time when I was practicing for my stillborn off-road rally "career".)
