I think I'd rather see the car stored for a year, than taken out and driven for very short drives (or just idled). Even just a good 10-mile drive (with proper warmup) every few weeks, but that's still a couple hundred miles a year.

Just before buying mine it had been 5 years up on jackstands. All the oil leaked into the crank case and wouldn't even turn over.

$7,000 later, it's been running like a top, and has no leaks.

How much of that was needed before it went into storage and how much it needed because it. Donno.

But they did a lot of stuff to it getting running before I purchased.

Drained all the oil out of the cylinders.
Replaced the oil and filter
Replaced the plugs
Leak down
Compression test
Replaced some fuel injectors
Replaced the ABS pump
Replaced the dist, caps and rotors
Replaced the batt
Replaced condensor fan
and some other stuff.

And I have spent another couple grand getting it really well sorted out.

^^ but was the asking price low enough for the additional expenses to be worth it?

Oh yeah. I feel like I still "stole" the car and I had very good idea what it needed, going to need and will need in the future and was prepared.

It had a rebuilt motor for $10K with less than 20K on it. I had reciepts for well over $19,000 in past 20,000miles.

I paid less for my car than some really rough SC's that I was originally looking at.

And it has been great since I have owned and been taking care of it. So I have zero regrets, zero remores, no second thoughts, what ifs or should have got something else thoughts.

I would have done it all over again if I could go back and do it again.

And to be clear it was the PO that flipped that $7k bill.

Even after spending the money I did on it, I feel there is plenty of equity in it over-all.

Yes I have read plenty of horror stories.

I guess it helps to be a car guy and having a clear understanding about the car and what it was all about.

I also did mine sight unseen 1300 miles away, but I had a trusted personal Porsche friend on the other end.

Default low usage

1. have it checked out, leak check
2. make sure all the features work, cruise , ac-heat, lights, gauges ect
3. drive for 50 miles or more and have them put up on lift while you are watching the whole time and verify no leaks. make sur the engine cover is off.
4. also make sure no leaks up front from steering rack, oil cooler ect
5.take someone with you that is car smart as you excitment will have you miss alot of things because you on the porsche spell
6. if its all checks out and it a good price and looked at others cars and this seems the best then buy it.

make a small offer to dealer, less than $9, if agreed. buy it spend the $7k on rebuild
93k is high if the car sat for a long time.

Mine is not a garage queen but since I got it in 2006 I think I put maybe 6000 and that includes the 1000 miles driving it back from Cali. Runs like a raped ape.
