Default Never be afraid to buy the best!

OE vs OEM vs After Market

Some parts are better than others and it is sometimes difficult to know what to buy.

CV boots, for example. I replaced four front boots with aftermarket versions a couple of years ago. Noticed today that one is wide open and the others are badly deteriorating. Looks like I'll be doing that project again long before I thought I would. This time it'll be OE.

Rod bolts, on the other hand are better from ARP than Porsche; our so I've read.

Aftermarket O2 sensors are junk!

Any other "part" wisdom folks would care to share?

Does this count as junk? OEM, not OE... anyone have issues with this Bosch O2 Sensor?
I, -er I mean ah, "a friend" has one of these on his shelf and his to-do list.
Thanks much, as I'm new at this.

I can't comment on porsche parts but I worked in the automotive aftermarket at Dorman Products, and Scantech (Volvo & Saab) designing aftermarket equivalent parts for US and european cars. There are several types of aftermarket parts, OEM, specific category aftermarket companies like, gates, Raceware, ect and then there is the "knockoff" aftermarket companies. A good amount of the OEM parts are just non branded OE parts. Sometime there is a better quality or different construction for the OE part though. The category specific aftermarket companies usually make good solid components.

I have noticed that many of the mail-order companies are now using these "knockoff" or cheap OEM alternatives. The parts are poor quality.
The trend when I was working in the industry was cheaper not better was the main driving feature.

We would sacrifice on construction and material all the time if safety was not a concern. You get what you pay for. Rubber and plastic parts are the worst from what I have seen.

If anything I would always go with a good known brand for a part, whether it be an OEM or a category specific aftermarket company. That is what I do for my BMW, Volvo and Land Rover.

Oil pressure sender. Bought two aftermarket ones that did not work. Got my money back and bought an OE one from Porsche for twice the price but works exactly as it should.

I'm on my second aftermarket after only 4 mos. I probably would have gone back to OE if I had not been sent 2 aftmkt by mistake.
