Default Fuse Upgrade from 7.5 to 20 Amps

The factory fuse for my horn is 7.5 amps.

The horn that I am considering for replacement needs a fuse of 15 to 20 amps. Can I simply change the fuse to a 20 amp fuse? Will all the wiring be ok, etc.

The fuse is supposed to be the weakest link in the circuit. Your wire gauge should be able to cope with a higher amperage than the fuse otherwise it will melt and possibly catch fire before the fuse blows if subjected to too high a load.

For 20 amps you probably need at very least 16 gauge wire to be safe. No idea what size wire you already have but if it is designed for 7.5 amps you might be better off running a seperate heavy duty circuit with a relay.

Thanks. Sounds like a simpler horn replacement might be an easier option

sml,
If you are a DIY guy, take a crack at the horns yourself:

Thanks. I had seen that, but my horns really looked 20yrs old with huge solder cracks and I thought it was time for some new horns.

Change of plan ... I would like to keep the 7.5 amp fuse (then just search for an appropriate horn).

What rating should the horn be? 7.5A .. or more or less?
