Same thing with my 964.

Spent over $1K to try and resolve it.

The mechanic had the entire HVAC system apart.

No solution to date.

I guess it is one of the little joys of the 964.

All of a sudden I really like the weird sound the heater system makes...

I had the exact same problem on my 89 C4 and i found the heater tubes in the right and left kick panels were leaking just enough to make a whistle type noise. tightened up the hose clamp and noise is gone.
