I finally got my 964 C2
I bought my 964 C2 sight unseen from a gentleman in Hawaii. I had a full PPI done and he provided me with a bunch of pictures. It took about 3 weeks to get to my house in Seattle....if you know what it's like to be expecting an important package from UPS, you know the anticipation was killing me.
It's a 93 with 69K miles....grand prix white on black.
I found out today it arrived yesterday and was ready to pick up. I used to own a 911SC around 10 years ago so driving this car was a mix of feelings...it felt like an old glove but at the same time totally new.
Some things I noticed....
-Took me a few minutes to get used to the hinged pedals again. 911 guys take this for granted but for someone that's not used to it, it can be odd at first.
-Reverse also took me a second to get used to. I'm so used to going far right and down that it makes me stop to think for a second before I do reverse.
-I had tendency to put it in 3rd while starting from stoplights. After driving for 30 minutes it got more natural. It's just that initial feeling of not wanting to go all the way over and hit reverse....I know it's all in my head.
-I LOVE the power. My SC was nice but the power was more in the middle. The 3.6 just screams to the top. It has an FVD race exhaust/chip/filter so it sounds great in the high rpm. I was looking forward to tunnels. My dad mentioned it felt as fast as his old 72 E with S parts.
-I had to laugh when I popped the headlight **** off...I was expecting a push/pull like my old SC and not a twist. haha
-Lot of people/articles complain about the steering but I felt it was fine. It seemed like a good mix of power/control for street driving.
-The brakes seem really touchy....it was like you pushed down an inch and they grabbed. I'll have to get used to them for modulation.
-It's great when so much of the stuff is in the same place...like popping the engine lid, fuel cap, etc..
-911's have such a distinct smell...like the interior, engine, etc.. It's like there is a 1000 small things that make these cars so unique.
I love the car...I still can't get over the feeling of it being modern but classic at the same time. It's a great combination. I'll get pictures of it this weekend when I have more time.

Great introduction and welcome back to a 911.
I really liked your comparison between the SC and 964...everything seems familiar, but there are so many subtle differences (switches, etc.).

Pretty car. Great color.
The journey begins anew.
Oh! - this just came to me: Feel free to add your car's build date to this thread and see if you've close cousins from 1993!

Congrats on the new car and spot on assessment. I'm pretty sure the 964 is the "best" 911 ever. For real driving enthusiasts at least...

My dad is still getting a kick out of this car. It's so different from his old 911E (his was white too) but also so similar.
Here is a few more pics. I'm going to wax it this weekend and get more shots.

I had mine shipped from Seattle to Denver, and bought it without actually seeing it in person.
It was delivered at night, so that was the first thing I did too, popped off the headlight switch. I was like I hadn't had it five minutes and broke it already.
Yes, when I first opened the door I was almost knocked over by the strong smell of Porsche eminating from the cabin.
I am getting used to the smell so I don't notice it as much, but I could smell it on me in my office after driving it.
My boss keeps asking me to let him drive it, and I say you need a lesson first. Then he is like it's just a car, I have owned and driven hundreds of them. I tell him you don't understand. There are three oil gauges! And they are very important to understand.
Plus he would never find the engine cover release, or the gas door release, or figure out where to even put the key. He wouldn't know how to close the hood, or the rear engine cover or figure out where the heck the sunroof switch is, much less adjust the time on the clock. Very unique indeed.
He might figure out the HAVAC just my trail and error. At least the A/C switch has a snowflake and they use a pretty universal defrost symbol, but other that that nothing is marked or labled.
I also agree that the steering issue is way overstated. I really have noticed the terrible understeer unless I was in a slower coner really pushing hard and then it was mild understeer in the entrance and was more or less straightened out by the apex, and if I really was pushing just a tad of over on the exsit. Although mine is a C4.

I had the 74, then the 75S, then the 78SC, all 15+ years old when I bought them. I sold the SC to buy some land and build a house and parked the worn out S for ten years. I promised myself to never forget what it was like to be behind the wheel of a 911. When I was able to get back into a 911 and found my GPW (not nearly as nice as yours) 89 C4, I couldn't believe how similar and yet how different it was from the earlier cars. I love the AWD, even with the understeer. Many similar feelings on first test drive: gearshift different, POWER, A/C works, clutch, power steering/brakes.

Great stuff!
Tell your boss that he can drive the car if he can find the sunroof switch?!
Of course going for a drive means warming the engine up to operating temp., so that means your boss and you will be out of the office all afternoon! No 5 minute drive.
