Wayne can answer better on the differences- the 993 mount is not side specific like the 964.
Exactly, the NA mouth is $130. Go figure that one out.

I've also seen it worse - where a part is superseded by another part that is not an exact fit and then needs to be modified (example, 964 sunroof cables are the supersession to the early cables).

+1 on that.

The bolt on the knock-off is poorly threaded. and easily comes out of the mount. Before using them one may want to re-thread them with a dye. Otherwise, they seem to do the job ok (at least relative to a failed mount . I think the way to go is OEM, clean nice fit.

I have no opinion on the mounts mentioned.

  1. A series-specific, over-engineered design (non-interchangable... really? to what purpose? [side-specific damping characteristics, too, perhaps?])
  2. Limited demand = no chance for volume discount pricing. (And the 964 was a very small proportion of the 911 series.)
  3. Little motive to obsolete such a 'cash cow' group of replacement parts.
This pretty much sets the tone for a good many 964-specific parts - if not all.

And it also leaves the average 964's current owner one of four options: a) innovate, b) wither, c) sell, or d) bend over for a factory wallet-proctological exam.

seems to be the case.

I thought we were just paying for the failed 959* project myself.

*Although it was not a Porsche failure as much as it was the class it was intended for disappeared and the 200 car held in US Customs.

Well the mounts just showed up today in plain brown boxes with a sticker that says 993 375 049 07.

Upon inspection they are most certainly not OEM. One one mount, there is a hairline crack around the edge where the top cap meets the body of the mount. The body of the mount is also cheap cast aluminum and I am slightly afraid that tightening the top bolts too tightly will crack the flanges.

I am going to use them anyway but I wish I spent the extra few dollars and bought the real deal OEM's.

I can post pictures if you want and I'll let you know how the installation goes.

Yeah. Just a blank no name, no part number, no ID thing

Mine are in. At least the are easy to get in and out. Maybe took an hour to R&R the mounts.

The quality is fair at best. I now know why they use hydrolic mounts.

It was an improvement over the done for original mounts, which were completely shot.

A lot of strange noises cleared up. It's not so clucky starting and stopping, shifts better, and feels a whole lot better in the rear.

And my tail pipe is in the realm of the correct location now.

If I had to over I would spend the extra and get the OE 993 but from the pictures they looked the same.

Are the 993 mounts oil filled?

So far the down side has been I can feel the motor vibrating at idle now.

It was a drastic improvement but not overly impressed.

993 mounts are solid rubber / aluminum.

I like the ever-so-slightly lumpy idle feeling that comes with stiffer mounts. Reminds me of my high school days driving around in my friends '68 Camaro. (if only my car sounded like that one) With the new mounts, the engine feels locked into the body - very solid.

With my old mounts I didn't feel the engine move around at idle, but I felt it move around while driving...with my Wevo's, everything is tighten up and responsive feeling.

It's hard not to be impressed by a drastic improvement? Do you mean you notice a drastic improvement, but are not impressed by the quality of the mounts?

Yes. I am happy with the improvement, but not so impressed my the quality of the mounts.

It all feels and sounds much better back there.
