Default New forum member w/ 2 964's and 1 big delema

(I had written a very long post but the password reset button must have been pressed and lost all I wrote lol) So this will be shorter

Hello

Hi my name is Efren, I'm a huge Porsche enthusiast ,
of all Aircooled flat Six Porsches but especially the 964.
I work, eat, sleep and breath Porsche. I try to attend 1 autocross/Track event at least once s month. So some of you might have seen my car.

I have been a long time reader first time posting.
I see some very good helpful threads here and enjoy reading some of these awesome projects.
They truly do inspire.
Well worth my 2 year subscription.

Currently I have 2 964 5 speed Coupes

1 Super stock 92 964 White
1 Tuned 90 964 Black (added 16,500 miles in 7 months of owning it)

I was involved in a car accident a few months that left my tuned 964 wrecked.
(long story short I got hit from behind by an out of control driver with out notice)

Being the Porsche nut that I am I went an purchased another 964 with the insurance check, since at the time I was advised not to fix my wrecked tune 964. Fast forward 3 months after the accident. I'm left with my wrecked chassis + my new 964 that now needs a little bit of normal maintenance

But I don't think I can afford to keep both with my current life style.

My New to me 964 needs some maintenance:
(ultra bone stock, 220 LSD, 16in wheels )
17 Wheels/Tires: (going to go with Toyo)
Brake pads
Full Tune up
Rebuild LSD just in case
add suspension
It is currently my daily driver but I want to tune it up lightly.
G pipe, cat delete, airbox, chip, oem wheels, ride height, h4...ect the usual. But keep it Stock looking.
It's a VERY clean car that I really enjoy and I don't want to change a single thing.

While the other Tuned 964 I don't know what to do with.
(rebuilt engine/trans 40k miles, exhaust, chip, pss9,rs this rs that, 965 brakes many mods)

It was hit from behind

both quarter panels are shot
Engine latch panel
The front/rear bumpers need to be replaced
Rear Aluminum bar
Tail lights
Decklid
Wheels
+ ????
I figure I got these choices

1.Sell the wrecked 964 and tune the other stock car. by removing all the good bits and pieces.
2.Turn the wrecked car into a full time Time Attack/ Autocross/Midnight Canyon cruiser
3.or sell both cars an get something crazier ?
I'm fortunate enough to have a Workshop garage with a few other Porsche tuners , access to parts and now you guys

Being a Gemini I figured I should try to keep both cars for both of my personality's.

I was also offered a non sunroof black 93 964 RSA with a tuned 993 Vario ram engine
I drove it for about 100 miles, had a blast but the RSA has serious transmission problems.
Would not shift into 1st or reverse after it got hot. (worn syncros ?)
( the RSA once had a 6 speed transmission but was switched back to 5 speed stock whoever did the work the second time added a bad transmission) the price Tag is a little steep considering it needs work and I still want to make a long list of mods to it and I would only have 1 car. ?

Whatever I'm going to I plan to start documenting it

What is one to do.....?

btw .. i like option 1 ... grab all the good parts and a few spares, transfer to the new white car and sell what is left of the black 964.

is it worth switching engines & LSD from the black to the white?

Hi Sml

The wheels are Sport Classic 1's I read they are one of the lightest wheels porsche made in 17
( i read it on one of those oem wheel weight charts) I read there even lighter than Magnesium cups !

2 of my wheels were destroyed in the accident though
I think I located a set,crossing fingers.

As for options

The white super stock car is the one with LSD

Hi Indycam
Wow I see you have many post point!
LA Dismantler is where I was getting parts until the accident.

This decision is killing me

So an update.... I still haven't made my mind up on what to do (big surprise)

But I did get some good advice:

I'm thinking of stripping the crashed 964 of all its goodies and adding them to the white car.
I was fantasizing about having 2 awesome 964s ! but in all reality I cant afford to fix two cars or store them both so I think I will start to strip the black 964 this weekend

Let see what happens
I wish the accident didn't even happen to begin with I miss my old car.

I think I will sell the black car and add the "special" parts to my white car.
Classified add coming soon

I will be posting photos/updates of the car coming apart ...maybe I can get a stop motion camera

not happy selling my black car though

Was your black car from Portland? I think I recognize Dan Johnson's old car...

Yes Sad to say it was Dan's "old car"

I flew to Portland on a one way flight and drove it back to Los Angeles.
The drive was pretty harry since I had to drive through some crazy mountains where it was snowing on brand new ZR rated tires.. I nearly lost the car and had to drive at 20-30 miles per hour at night lol.
He was very nice and described the car perfectly. It was a deal of the century I though.
It's too bad the dream couldn't last any longer.

My new white car doesn't even compare to the black car and I paid the same amount too.

Ive been pretty bummed out for the last few months.
Every time I see it I just want to drive away in it as if nothing happen.

Well there not as light as Magnesiums but pretty close. Pound for price there a good bargain for looks though.

I got the info from this site
http://www.944racing.de/felgengewichte.php

and used this simple converter
http://manuelsweb.com/kg_lbs.htm

I wonder how accurate this chart above is.
Seems like the 996 Carrera 2 comes close too but they sure don't look as cool as the Sport classics 1s

It's too bad they didn't make a 17 x 10 The rear wheel sticks in a little a Spacer defiantly will finis the look.

Silly question: How were you able to keep wrecked 911 and get a check - was it NOT totaled?

Progressive allows you to buy back your car if you wish, but they take a % from the Full value of the vehicles pay off. They pay retail for the car not Blue book, Current market price. With all the mods it had + rebuilt engine ...ect they valued it enough to buy a completely new 964 with change to keep the "wrecked" car.

I have my 964 with full coverage always.

I'm actually getting excited to build this white 964 "Ghostbyrd"
I like the way the 964s white lines glow at night Under certain lights
Gave the car an oil change.
