Default Servo for Air Temperature Mixing Flap

Good Morning,

Does any one have a spare:

964-624-324-00 (130 degree servo)

That they would like to sell, or donate to a driver whose girlfriend is tired of only getting cold air. My passenger side servo is shot and I need to replace it. Looks like this is a somewhat difficult part to find. Does anyone have any suggestions.

Thanks,
Roger

I got mine from Oklahoma foreign. They charged me $100 for 2 servos last winter. They both work as new.

That's good advice... they're becoming hard to find.

Parts Heaven out here in CA is another good source.

I've got 2 old ones that I may be trying to rebuild just for fun, but won't help you now.

Thanks for the advice. Maybe I'll try a couple of those outfits. I also put an inquiry in with LA Dismantlers. What is the story with these servos. Did they stop manufacturing them? Is that why Pelican Parts and other outfits don't have them.

Thanks,
Roger

You could try Sunset Porsche http://www.sunsetimports.com/contact...-parts-online/, (no affiliation) I have had very good luck with them, especially on hard to get parts, their prices are good, 15% over cost.

I don't think any one is manufacturing them. I have tried to repair them, using the cleaning method (pencil eraser on the board surface) but I don't know if that's really the problem. Does anyone have theories on why they break? My pet theory so far is that the contacts on the board burn out. If you look at the assembly, there is a white teflon gear, with very delicate contacts attached. These rotate with the motor, and give resistance feedback to the CCU, thus providing an indication on the location of the servo to the computer. I am guessing that the CCU runs the motor until it gets a resistance within a certain range, then stops the motor, assuming it is in the right position. Those contacts seem to burn the board surface (I see hot spots) thus it stops registering the right resistance value. If you attach a meter to the contacts, and manually move the gear back and forth, you can see the resistance value change, and of course on a broken one, see where they drop out.

Maybe when Ricardo and I are done with the OBD1 Interfaces, we can engineer a new board for that motor... Anyone out there have experience in this?

Assuming I can find a replacement, I will take pictures of mine when I pull it out again. It almost looks like something close to the contacts shorted burning a depression in the board. This problem seemed to worsen when I applied 12V to the servo to see if it was still working. This produced additional smoke and ultimately the motor stopped turning. I think it was broke before I took it apart, but I definitely didn't help any.

Left a message with sunset, I had somewhat forgotten about them, but have used them in the past for a window regulator for my boxster.

Thanks,
Roger

They are NLA from Porsche. I got one for $75 from OK Foreign.
I expect the price will be going up.

You might also try dcauto. I've had really good service from them.

Your budget sounds like mine. I thought I read how to refurbish them on a recent thread. You might do a search and find how to get it working for free.

Not an answer to the OP's question, but just a shout out for Roly's great old site.

http://www.porsche964.co.uk/technical/servos.htm

May be helpful to any not already familiar with the resource.

I did the take apart and fix at least 3 times each in one winter before I got tired of doing it. It was worth the $100 to just get ones that worked.
