Default '91 C2 w/ 74k for sale

No affiliation.

This just popped up on Crazieslist. Low mileage 3 owner car w/ records. If I didn't already own one, I'd be very interested.

John Walker (Walker's Workshop) in Seattle does thorough PPI's w/ leakdown for very reasonable money.

ARGGHH! I'm in Seattle and have been looking for a 964 coupe with a 5 speed and black leather....but the ONLY color I'm not interested is in red. That's the way it is though. haha
Looks like a great car though.

I also vouch for John Walker...great honest guy that does excellent work.

Looks to be nice. Nice environs, and colors.
Low miles and not undue price.
Should sell well. Maybe not fast, but well.

Too much for a car that's been whacked, and has the A/C disconnected.

Barry,

The seller amended his advert yesterday. The original ad that we were commenting on, made no mention of the prang, or of the leaks.

I certainly agree that given the updated info it is not a $20k 964.

This one is interesting... Looking at the ad again, I could swear I saw this car on CL, maybe 2 yrs. ago or so. I know it was a red '91 C2 coupe in Gig Harbor. How many could there be? At that time, it had 64K on it, and was advertised as "my mother's car" (or was it "My Mother The Car"? ). I'm thinkin' it's the same guy.
Very little detail in the ad back then. I remember thinking that it looked nice.
No mention at that time of the thump, or any other deficiencies. That all may be recent developments.
Price was in the low $20K's at that time.

I don't know about 20k for 964 that's been hit...... but I am pretty tempted to shoot him an offer, as it's just what I'm looking for....

Do you guys have more information that's not listed in the ad?

All I see is....

The car has had some paint and body work on the rear end from an accident.
Even a mild fender bender like a 5mph hit at a stoplight will cause body work/paint especially since a large percentage of vehicles are trucks/SUV's with tall bumpers. Minor accidents are expected with an almost 20 year old car.

Now if someone slammed into the back of the car and it was major damage, then yeah, I could see it as a factor in the price/value. But unless someone knows the facts, we're all just speculating and could be making a mountain out of a mole hill.

I give the seller kudos for mentioning the accident...so many sellers are shady and fail to disclose that information.

On the flip side of that, so many sellers understate the severity of an incident, and the scope and extent of paint and bodywork.

If you "expect" an accident with any car that you buy, whether it's 1 yr. old or 20, then you have lower standards than I do. I've bought a lot of cars, and a body/paintwork history is an almost automatic disqualifier. In a car like this especially, I put a value on originality (some don't, but that's an entirely different thread), and it's really pretty easy to find an unmolested one, if you look around. I have a paint meter, but it's usually pretty easy to spot even without. I just don't care to try to figure what really happened, what was damaged and repaired, whether the paint is a good match, and whether it still will be 5 years from now. That mattered to me, because I was looking for a keeper and I found one pretty easily.
It really depends a lot on what your intent for the car is. It might be perfect for someone. I just don't think it's worth the asking price, given the history.

Yes, we're really just speculating and that's why the ads get posted in the first place - so we can play beach-ball with the verbage and the pictures. It's fun.

If you go look at the car and find out what the real skinny is, please post.

I tend to agree with Barry's views. I value condition, originality & provenance. That said, I would entertain a car that has had remedial work to address stone chips on the bumper & hood. Anything more serious would, for me at least, substantially affect it's value.

I think it is getting very difficult to find good/excellent relatively low mileage, original paint & panel C2 manual coupes.

You mean it comes in other colors besides red?

Better than mine

I don't think I've ever seen "M286 Intensified windscreen washer" ?

Does "Comfort seat" also mean heated?

Is "M980 Seat cover - draped leather" the same as Supple Leather, or something different?

I believe M286 goes in hand with the headlight washers

Comfort seat is not a sport seat does not include heat or lumbar so an 8 way seat vs std 4 way or 12 way adjustable.

Draped leather and Supple leather are the same option number. On the 928 it is called draped on the 964 supple. The info is sometimes overlapping. Depending on the decoder this might also come up as Raff leather.

Both seats pictured have this option the tan is my 928 or draped leather the turbo with 8 way comfort seats in supple leather vs standard perforated leather.

Cool... thanks Anthony.
I learned something today - not an easy trick for an old dog!
