The good thing in Australia is that good manual coupeC2's have appreciated in the past few years. So if you got a good one for $45-50k three years back, expect it to now be worth 65-70 and up to 85 with tasteful mods such as suspension, basic performance mods. The apparent reason for the rise here is the desire for many to have a well set up 964 as a track car as they have seen the performance that can be achieved.

My insurance company recently revalued my car from $50k to $85k as they said it was well under insured. And the best bit, my premium is only $10/month higher. My wife says I should drive it off a cliff. haha

That said, I said I'd never need to modify it and so far

3 sets of track rims with various compounds of tyres
cup pipe
100 cell CATS
leather RS race seats
RS steering wheel
harness bar
koni's
HR reds
Custom adj swaybars
slotted rotors
chip
EVOMS intake
Dougherty DC21 CAMS
rebuild with ARP rodbolts, strengthened valve springs etc.

Next

GT 60/40 LSD

Then I think I'll be done, seriously.

Thing is, I have been lucky enough to drive many, many cars around a track and in the hills and pretty much nothing gives me the smile of my 964. It sucked **** standard with sloppy responses and understeer etc but a few sensible mods and wow, what a car. I'll NEVER sell it. Seriously.

It's strong, reliable and regularly hassles many a GT3 on the racetrack and plenty of other so called supercars. And the noise is to die for. Trick is, I drove a dozen or so 964's whern I purchased and this one felt immediately tight as a drum and responsive. (for a standard car)

And no, I will never tally the receipts. That said, many friends purchased new Caymans, GT3's and 997's at the time of my purchase and all have lost well over what I have spent just in depreciation.

With the unique advantage of growing 964 C2 manual coupe values in Oz, I reckon I am probably running at zero cost for three years ownership. Can't beat that!

Sep 2010 Red Book value for a 92 C2 is $38 to $45k.

Driving it off a cliff for $85k is an interesting proposition!

I just paid $47k for a well maintained C4. Assessing the value was difficult trying to balance Red Book, Glasses and used car value wish lists. Hopefully I paid a fair price.

Fingers crossed it holds it value or appreciates. That was the financial plan anyway .. hopefully with my novated lease, I am increasing equity in my appreciating asset paying 22% FBT (approx from memory for 15,000km/pa) with GST free and pre-tax maintenance & fuel.

Come saturday I will have owned my 1990 C2 for a month.

Porsches are expensive here in Sweden, I paid about $32k for mine with 85k miles on the clock. It's in quite good condition and quite low milage for 20 yearold 964's around here.

It drips a few drops of oil on the garage floor each time I park it but as long as it's just drops I'll be ok. I know I have the skills and tools to pull the engine myself but a rebuild would have to be done by a specialist but as long as it runs strong and the leaks doesn't get way worse I'll just clean the floor and enjoy driving it.

Come winter or spring I'll use a weekend and get my hands dirty and check the valvegaps etc for myself just for peace of mind.

It's my first Porsche and I also some days just open the garage door to see that silhouette.... I love my car...

I never take notice of red book. In this case, I have never seen a C2 manual coupe under $45k and any under $55k are HK imports. Targas, cabs, tips and C4's range between $45-$60k. C4, tip cab being cheapest, c4 manual coupe most exp ie $60k. C2 manual coupe 964, ie history, low kms, usually have through bolts done etc are around $65k min for any decent C2. Good ones sold through Throttle Shop, Weltmeister, RSR garage are all $65 plus and up to $90k for a track prepared car. I have seen and driven many sub $55k 964's and there is a lot of rubbish out there and plenty that look fantastic unless you know what to look for. That said, genuine bargains can be found.

Ugh...too painful to go into detail. Just got fed up with it continually needing fixes. Worst mistake I've ever made, buying that car...
