Default Sat Nav & Cig Lighter Hole

Hi

My Garmin plug seems to fall about in the cig lighter hole, and on expansion gaps in roads and a few bumps it comes off the connection and my satnav then asks if it wants to remain switched on. Annoying but at least it doesn't fall completely out onto the floor.

Is this normal? As it fits tightly in the Audi so i don't assume its the Sat nav connection. Are their any tips to stop this, apart from to buy a map and MTFU.

I've have a Garmin satnav also, & get the same problem................seems the *** lighter is not deep enough for the Garmin adaptor. Short term fix was wrap the thing in insulating tape so it wedges in, careful not to cover the contacts or it will not charge!!!

Many moons ago, in a land far, far away..............cig lighters were a different diameter to their American cousin. We would wrap black electrical tape around the plug, threading it thru the negative post spring clips in order to get the tight fit.

I recall places selling plastic adaptors that would slide over the plug to make up for thesize differences (don't know if they are still available).

It must be the size of the hole as Louz says, think i will have a look for a little adaptor or loom cloth tape if all else fails

Just fold a piece of paper a couple of times and wedge it in between the plug and the socket. Works like a charm.

If you dont have to buy a gadget for minimun $20 the solution is too simple and demeaning to use on a p-car.

My portable DVD player cigarette lighter adapter actually came with a removable plastic sleeve for just this situation. I always thought it was weird it came with this piece, as 99.9% of the people will probably never use it.

Not to mention flammable. Something about sticking paper into a cigarette lighter that bothers me....then again, I do have a fancy chrome halon fire extinguisher that I've never had to use yet

Halon extinguisher! These are banned in the UK due to damaging the ozone layer. You guys over the pond must get them cheaper

Thanks,

And thanks for the link hawk, i think i will try to put a little OE loom tape (cloth type) and see if i can take up the slack. I don't use it for the Sunday drives but heading to Spa and the Ring its essential.
