Default New Tyres - Sumitomo HTR ZIII

Just put them on today to replace the Pilot Sports, and immediately felt a difference in the ride. Could be the PS have hardened, but the ZIIIs were quiet and nice riding. Will let you know about the grip once they're bedded in.

The TireRack view here:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...irePageLocQty=

Best part is that they've very reasonable for their performance.

I would be very interested in your opinion after a little bit of time on the road. I have some old Yokos on my 964 and although there is plenty of tread, they are LOUD.

Thanks,

Skip

Another lower prices tire to consider, is the new
"Continental Extreme Contact DW", I put a set on my car about 3000 miles ago, replacing Yoko AVS 100's, and the difference is very noticeable, they are "extremely" quiet, handeling and grip is right up there with the best of them. I drove for a whole day in heavy downpour, and this was on tight and twisty mountain roads, and they past with flying color's. For Tire Rack test results please cilck HERE . No affiliation.

It was more like "How can you hear the engine at WOT" over the tire noise.

All joking aside, those Yokohama AVS 100 got so bad, I thought all my wheel bearings had gone south; on certain types of pavement I couldn't even hear myself think, and at slower speeds they sounded like I was on halftracks.

I have been running the Sumi's for 3 years on my 996. Great tires for the money but they will howl just like all the others...just give them 4 to 6 months of daily driving.

Put them on the 964 two years ago. The rears went 8-10K including 10-15 track days before needing replacement. The fronts are still good. I would buy again.

I have the sumi ZII's and after a few thousand km's they are not too loud (then again i have a cup pipe so maybe they are) but the traction is definitely less now. Also the front's squeal easily even on slight corners.

WOT: Wide Open Throttle. A beautiful thing.
