nice car indeed.
Jag har vita framblinkers och framreflexer på min c4, men skulle hellre ha gula.
Byta?

So it's almost three weeks now and I'm slowly understanding that the beautiful awsome machine in the garage is really mine...
Gotten a few things done on her and found out some others.

Oil level gauge stuck at the top, due to there being no cable between the sender and engine harness. I ordered a new sender and will install that as soon as it arrives.

The Grundig casette player stereo was swapped for a Blaupunkt CD unit I had laying around. Doing that job I found out that some previous owner lacked skills
in automotive electrical work. Sorted the dodgy wiring out and soldered
in a new ISO harness for the power and speakers. Suddenly I had the rear speakers working again.

Took out the rear center console and deleted the cassette storage, a piece of black plastic and alittle glue and now I have a perfect place for putting my phone.

Since I knew the engine was dripping alittle oil but never showing anything on the ground I took the engine undertray off and I get a 2-3 drops on the ground
after I've parked it. Not too bad. The undertray however was caked in oil and dirt so I gave it a thorough cleaning and I'll keep it off the car for now to learn
my cars oil dripping habits.

The odometer and tripmeter is glitchy. I didn't know about the "dont press the reset button while moving" rule so I've done that. I can get the meters working if I press the button several times while standing still, there's slight change in the lights in the gauge and then it will work untill I stop the car and let it cool down. I will repair this during the winter season.

I also discovered that my car is missing the panel that the front part of the trunk carpet attaches too, anyone have a picture of how it's supposed to look?

Hope the weather clears up soon, I wanna drive my car !

Got the oil level sender and gasket today and proceded to install it right away.

Quick step by step below.

1. Loosen the RR wheelbolts and raise the car, I only raised the right hand side.
2. Use jackstands!
3. Remove RR wheel
4. Remove the two 8 mm nuts holding the steel cover in place and remove the cover.
5. Remove the remaining 4 nuts.
6 Carefully praise the old sender away and remove the gasket. Take care not to get dirt into the oil tank. I had to remove the air filter lid to get to the connector in the engine bay. Removing the oil filler cap made removal of the filter lid alittle easier.
7. Clean the gasket area carefully and mount the new gasket.
8. Insert the new sender into the tank, takes alittle wiggling but it's not hard.
9. Refasten the bottom 4 nuts.
10. Install the steel cover and refasten the last two nuts.
11 Route the cable along the oilhoses along the top of the wheelarch and into
the engine bay. Fasten it to the oillines with zip ties.
12. Reconnect the cable in the engine bay.
13. Put the air filter lid and oil cap back.
14. Put the wheel back on and lower the car and tighten the wheelnuts.

Tadaaaa ! You're done.

Sneaked in the car on the Swedish GTI-clubs slalom/autocross event at an old airfield today.

Cold, wet, partially raining and windy, and....totally totally wonderfull !!
What a car! So communicative, so predictive, so fast, Sooo much fun !!!!

Started out pretty carefully as I'd never driven an RWD car fast before, first two runs was both 1.59.xx
Third run I shaved about a second off as I started to get a feel for the car. Then in the forth run I really
started putting some stick into it and did a 1.53.xx. Fifth and sixth runs was 1.52.xx and 1.51.xx I was pretty pleased but some other drivers was well into the 1.46-47's and I wanted to get below 1.50 at least. So the last two runs I tried even harder and finally sorted out the turning point so I didn't loose too much time there and in the last run I did 1.49.33. Well chuffed I packed my stuff up and went home.

It was really usefull to drive the car in the wet and get a feel for it not to mention of much fun it was.
Today I really started to "get" what the 911 hype is all about....and it's all Good ! :-)

Today we've now got at least 6 months of Swedish winter before I get to drive it like this again....

Ok, yesterday was the last day of driving the Porsche untill april 2011.

Got lots of little stuff to fix during the coming winter tho so I'll keep myself busy.

First up in an oil change, the oil is pretty fresh but I dont want it sitting
with used oil all winter. Motul 300V 15W-50 is ordered.

Below is a random memory list for myself to check.

Drivers side door switch for the interior lights needs to be changed
Both rubbers for the door switches
Driver side door sealing rubber trim
Change all instrument lights
Fix glitchy tripcounter
Passenger side windshield washer nozzle seems clogged, change both?
Passenger side headlight washer nozzle needs adjustment
Check spark plugs
Metallic rattle drivers side rear when closing door. Loose heatshield?
Check driveshaft rubbers
Change transmission oil
Check passenger side sunroof drainage
Check distributor caps and rotors for wear

take the electric plugs out on the speedo and Tach and clean the contacts off with something like a pencil eraser or contact cleaner. Corrosion is a cause of them not working or working sometime. Hopefully it works as a cheap fix.

on the wiper jets-- look at replacing the check valves under the wiper arms... under the plastic cover. Mine haven't worked in 5 yrs, but I don't drive it much in the rain or cruddy roads that I need clean windows

Over here windshield washers are part of the yearly MOT check so if they dont work the vehicle fails and you have 30 days to fix the problem or you're not allowed to drive the car.

Getting to the washer nozzes underneath the windshield base is more akin to speleology or endoscopy. try this:

Find a spot where the line is easily reachable, and with a connection.
take your compressor, and blow air at 3 bars in the tubing. Not enough? Carfully raise the pressure to 4, 5 and maybe 6 bars. This should do it. Worked for me after 6 years parked outside. If you are in the footwell, there is a plug in the lower part of the washer reservoir, to flush out any crap that may have sedimented there.

As for the door contact switch, you usually can always save them unless one is broken. Wire brush, soldering iron and dielectric grease are your friends.
