Default Transmission Leak question.

So I have another thread running about my current engine drop happening but here is a seperate question regarding my tranny. I have the g50 off of the engine now and had noticed even before dropping engine that the transmission was leaking its fluid.

It is leaking from between the cases here:

(you cant see the leak because I had just wiped it, trans is sitting upright during photo)

Is there a paper gasket in there that is bad or is it time to reseal it? I'd like to have a completely leak free car so any advice fixing this and any other "while I'm there" transmission items would be appreciated!

Does it leave a puddle or just weep? It's not really a DIY reseal to fix that on a G50. While I would recommend doing it now while the bearbox is out, you're probably gonna want to pay someone to do it for you.

I've never torn apart a transmission before. But is there a reason why I should not attempt it? I'd really like to change all the seals and at least the gasket that is leaking. Any special tools required?

I'm an experienced mechanic and engineer and would like to have a tranny rebuild under my belt.....................at the same time If it's a major pain or requires specific tooling I'd probably consider using a experienced shop.

special tools Porsche is king of special tools!

However there is nothing that should be too strange inside. Borg Warner helped them with the G50 so it should be pretty straight forward, but I can promise there is a half dozen special Porsche tools to strip on down and rebuild it, not that you can't work around some if not all of the special tools.

I'd at least have the factory service manual on hand for the job.

Scary! I'd hate to start the job and not finsh it, I wonder what an experienced shop would charge me to put the new gaskets and seals in it....

I was close only six special tools need.

Extractor for Kukko puller 20-2
Special socket
another special socket
special holding device
Centering component
and another specail holding device

To get the case split where there IS a gasket.

There are more special tools if you want to rip it down further. 25-30 special gearbox tools 45-50 special tools to get into the diff and even more special tools if you have a C4.

Special tool kings, Porsche is.

As has been pointed out, special tools is the reason. A local gearbox builder was recently adding up how much he had invested in Porsche special tools. It's many thousands of dollars.
