Not exactly.

There are many reasons why the belt gets worn and suffers from rounded "teeth" and thats the first step toward slippage and loss of rotor phasing.

One of the biggies is worn bearings and we are seeing this with increasing frequency as these things all get older. There are three sealed ball bearings in these distributors and as they wear, the shafts start wobbling a bit and that leads to accelerated belt wear.

Right now, about one in 3 distributors that arrive here for rebuilding requires one or more new bearings. In some cases we can repack them if they just feel rough.

So I say the belt gets damaged and then it slips
and you say
"the belt gets worn and suffers from rounded "teeth" and thats the first step toward slippage" ?

I replaced my belt at 70K. The old belt looked fine. Vent kit was installed when the car was new.
